EV Star
GreenPower Motor Company produces a complete line of high-floor and low-floor all-electric medium and heavy-duty vehicles. The EV Star Cab & Chassis is their most popular vehicle and it is able to be adapted to suit a variety of applications. The platform's design philosophy of clean sheets allows for optimal battery pack placement and lower center of gravity, resulting in better payload-to-range ratios.
The EV Star REEFERX is designed to serve mid-to-last mile refrigerated delivery and catering applications. The refrigerated truck's class 4 design's one interior wall structure and higher insulation levels compared to traditional trucks allows for seamless sanitation, better temperature control and a longer life. The EV Star REEFERX delivers superior cargo capacity and an industry leading payload-to-range ratio for zero emission passenger transport and goods.
GreenPower has partnered with Perrone Robotics in order to equip the EV Star with TONY (To navigate you) autonomous vehicle systems that will enable fleets to move to autonomous vehicles. The AV Star will also be capable of wireless charging up to 75 kW.
We were allowed to test drive the EV9 on an unpaved highway for several hours, and found it easy to drive, and comfortable to drive over long distances. The ride is smooth over bumps and ruts, and the EV9 is a master of suppressing the sound of traffic and wind on the highway. The acceleration is surprisingly quick, and the car comes with adjustable regenerative braking that allows "one pedal driving" by simply taking off the accelerator.
The EV9 has a great range and can be fully recharged within three hours at home, or with any commercial charger. The driver has the option of choosing between two operating modes: eco mode and sport mode. Eco mode is a great way to increase torque as well as cruise control and handling while sport mode focuses on speed. Both are a lot of fun to drive and offer an unique experience for anyone who has not driven an electric vehicle before.
greenpower scooter offers several other eVehicles which include a multi-purpose electric minibus, called the EV Star. The EV Star is ADA compliant and can be used as an executive shuttle, micro-transit or transit vanpool, bus or a paratransit vehicle.
GreenPower produces about 10 EV Star buses per month for Jacksonville Transit Authority. The Jacksonville Transit Authority is replacing their fleet of diesel vehicles with 100 all-electric cars. With the Biden Administration planning to electrify schools across the nation, GreenPower plans on ramping up production to meet demand. Their EV Star bus is the first of its kind to be Altoona-tested and FMVSS-certified, Buy America compliant and ADA certified. This will make them eligible for federal transit grants. We will be following the AV Star as it makes its demonstration tour in later this year. We will be sure to give more details about this amazing electric vehicle!
