WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give you boost in specific statistics. Each upgrade boosts the level of an item by 3. A random extra substat is also added to each upgrade.

The upgraded gear typically has a greater value for trade, unless it has inherently low requirements (like the FB shield of the sorc) or has a high stat variance (like Eth titan weapons). The latter see less value from upgrading due to the necessity to roll for a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear to a higher level by supplying the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of weapon or armor. However, the item that is used to upgrade will remain in use for a long time and can't be used again. Upgrades can also be applied to enhancements.

The upgrader can be found in all major cities, and can be accessed anytime to upgrade your equipment. To ensure that your equipment is up-to-date, it is recommended that you visit the upgrader every few weeks.

The cost of upgrades will be based on the current item level of the equipment being upgraded, but will always be cheaper than purchasing new gear from other sources. Upgrades like upgrading a Benthic chest up to ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. Buying a similar item will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to purchase weapons, armor, tools and accessory upgrades. Players can purchase them through NPCs who sell upgrades to item owners in a variety of currencies. They can also find them on random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be used on any weapon, tool or armor. The button will show a preview of an item's next level of upgrade, when there are enough materials.

Upgrade costs differ based on the item slot, and the current item upgrading level. For instance weapons are more expensive than bracers, or gloves. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones plus a set number of crests. Some upgrades give discounts on Flightstones. After an item has been upgraded to a certain level it is able to be degraded and returned to the upgrader for a lower amount of the two currencies.

Upgraders for items are available at many locations on the main island, as well as a few outposts. The NPCs offer both an upgrade discount and the chance to get a brand new upgrade recipe. The discount on upgrades increases according to the number of items being upgraded. It can also be increased by having players complete specific achievements or complete quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an upgrader for items at the beginning unlike Cromwell from Baldur's Gate II. Instead the NPCs that can be used to upgrade require a variety of means that are both an improvement as well as a disadvantage.

In Season 3, many new features were added to the upgrade system. After an upgrade has been completed to a certain level of item upgrading level upgrade (trade-britanica.trade published an article) for an armor slot upgrading other items to the same item level will cost less. This is true regardless of whether the items are from an entirely different set of gear.

The amount of Valorstones required for upgrades is decreased, and the discount is account-wide. The amount of Harbinger Crests required to upgrade is reduced as well, but is only available once certain milestones have been reached.

Crests

When it comes to upgrading equipment in WoW players have a variety of choices. Flightstones are an option that is accessible to all players for upgrading. Crests are more specific and are used for specific item level upgrades. Crests are an integral component of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System that was introduced in version 10.1. They come in four ranks.

The first thing to remember is that crests can only be spent on gear of a specific rank, and each rank has its own requirements for upgrading. The new currency system isn't complicated to use, however it brings some changes to the upgrade process. When a piece of equipment attains the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer), it will no longer require Flightstones. This change lets players upgrade their gear to the highest possible ilvl on all their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.

Another important modification is that crests have one purpose, so it's important to use them wisely. For instance it's a good idea utilize all of your Whelpling rank crests with the best equipment you have and then keep Drake and Wyrm crests for the next batch of upgrades you're planning on making. This is particularly relevant for items like trinkets and rings that take up several slots. The account-wide discount is only applicable when all the slots on the character are filled with top-quality gear.
