WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades provide a guaranteed boost to certain stats. Each upgrade increases the level of the item upgrader kit by +3. Each upgrade also increases an unspecified substat.

Upgraded gear generally sees greater value for trade as long as it meets low requirements (like the FB sorc's shield) or very high stat variation (like the eth titan weapons). Upgrades aren't as valuable for those with lower requirements because of the requirement to roll a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader kit upgrader lets players upgrade their gear by offering the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied on any kind of weapon or armor. The item used to upgrade the item upgrading is discarded and cannot be used again. Upgrades can also be applied to enchantments.

The upgrader is located in all major cities, and can be visited at any time to upgrade your gear. It is recommended that you visit the upgrader every couple of weeks to keep your equipment up-to-date.

Upgrades will cost more depending on the level of the item, however they'll always be cheaper than purchasing new gear. Upgrades like upgrading a Benthic chest up to the level of ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. Buying a similar item will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are functional items that are used to improve the quality of weapons and tools, armor and other accessories. They are purchased by players from item upgrader NPCs in exchange for a variety of currencies, and can also be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be applied to any weapon, tool, or armor. The button will display the item's next upgrade level, if there are enough materials.

Upgrade costs differ based on the slot for the item and the current item level. For example weapons are more expensive than gloves, bracers, or bracers. Each upgrade items costs 15 Flightstones plus a specific number of crests. Certain upgrades provide a discount on the Flightstones. After an item has been upgraded to a certain degree it is able to be downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower cost.

Upgraders for items can be found at many locations, including the main island as well as some outposts. The NPCs provide an upgrade discount and a chance to get a brand new upgrade recipe. The upgrade discount increases depending on the amount of items that are being upgraded. It can also be increased by requiring players to complete specific achievements or quests.

In contrast to Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II is no item upgrader available in the beginning of Icewind Dale. Instead the NPCs that are available to facilitate upgrades must be acquired through several methods that are both an improvement and a drawback.

In Season 3, several new features were added to the upgrade system. Once a player has upgraded to a certain level of item for an armor slot upgrading other items to the same level, will cost less. This is even if the items come from a different set of gear.

The amount of Valorstones required for upgrades is decreased, and the discount is account-wide. The amount of Harbinger Crests needed for upgrades is also cut and is not available until players reach certain milestones in their achievement.

Crests

Players have several options for upgrading their gear in WoW. Flightstones are a currency that is available to everyone who wants to upgrade. Crests are more special and are used for specific item level upgrades. Crests are an integral part of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System, which was introduced in version 10.1. They come in four ranks.

The first thing to be aware of is that crests can only be spent on gear of a specific rank, and every rank has different requirements for upgrading. The easiest and most straightforward upgrade is 15 crests. The most complicated upgrade can require up to 20 crests, contingent on the kind of gear that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by completing tasks at the appropriate level. This could be by doing outdoor activities or taking on dungeons and raids of all difficulties to get equipment of lower tier or Mythicbosses for raids, or dungeons with a heroic difficulty for gear in the endgame. The crests can later be exchanged at an upgrader NPC like Cuzolth in Dornogal, or Vaskarn in Valdrakken, for the appropriate upgrade paths and steps.

Utilizing these new currencies isn't too difficult however, the system will introduce a few changes to the overall upgrade process. For instance, when an item level Upgrade is at the highest upgrade level of any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic), it will no longer require Flightstones to be upgraded. This change is designed to allow players to get their gear up to the highest possible ilvl on all their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.

Another important change is that crests have one use and it's crucial to use them properly. For instance it's a good idea to utilize all of your Whelpling rank crests on the best gear you have available and then save Drake and Wyrm crests for the next round of upgrades you plan to make. This is particularly true for items such as trinkets and rings that take up multiple slots. The account-wide discount is only applicable when all the slots on the character are filled with top-quality equipment.
