The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored excellently in our tests on bare floors, and they are particularly adept in cleaning hair from dogs. There are some issues, however, that prevent them from being our top choice. One of the flaws of the Q5 is its navigation system doesn't have AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's also prone to get stuck on shoes and socks and couldn't navigate densely packed rooms very well in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera to see around corners.

It's still a good value for those whose office or home has a lot of unfinished floors and you're looking to save some money. Additionally, it's quiet and can be used when you're at work or going to school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective when it comes to mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying cradle however. And, if you need to, you can switch the mopping pad to dry ones in just a few minutes.

It also supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It is able to clean floors even after it vacuums. This is a feature that we haven't seen on other robotic vacuum/mop combinations.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

With an elegant circular design that looks more like a normal Roomba than the competitors' compact models, this robot vacuum and mop combo is among the most appealing looking in our reviews. The latest model from iRobot is also among its most advanced. It features advanced features, like Enhanced Dirt Detection as well as future compatibility (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).

It's also the only robot vacuum or mop that scored the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our testing. This is due to a mix of high-tech sensors, including a structured light system, camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation in a self-contained manner. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mops.

The X40 as with other iRobot products, is simple to operate. It has an intuitive mobile application interface and is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. It also has a front-mounted camera to detect hazards in real-time however, it wasn't foolproof in our testing and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.

The automatic vacuum and mop cleaner has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to accomplish the task. It also comes with a feature known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts cleaning frequency for different areas in the house based on how dirty those areas tend to be.

For bigger homes it's worth looking for models with zone or spot cleaning modes that let you tell the robot to clean one particular area of your home by using the app or via voice commands. If you have a lot of furniture, a stair mode is also a good option. For busy families, a recharge feature and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to pick up where it left off can be very beneficial.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is more advanced than the price suggests. It's a pro at vacuuming, removing 55% of the debris that was found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It's also highly self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app, and a self-emptying base that is washable.

It does a great job vacuuming, but it is more likely to get stuck on low thresholds. It is also louder than other top robot vacuums we have test. It also comes with an app that's not as intuitive and has a tiny base station that can't double as a bin to empty.
