Types of UPVC Door Handles
When your upvc door handle is in need of replacement, it's important to choose the correct replacement for your home. Locksmiths can supply and install high-security uPVC door handles that have additional security features.
The most important measurements are measurement A (known as PZ) and the length of the backplate (measurement F). Check these measurements to ensure your new uPVC handle will fit.
Lever/Lever
A lever is a solid bar that pivots around a central point (known as a Fulcrum). When you apply a force at the end of the lever, it will tend to rotate the fulcrum in the direction of the applied force. This rotates the force and allows you to lift or move things that normally require more force to lift.
The distance between the fulcrum to the point where you apply the force determines the distance the lever can move. This is called the mechanical advantage. The greater the length of the lever the greater the mechanical benefit. You can calculate the mechanical advantage by dividing distance from fulcrum point to the point you are applying force by the distance between the fulcrum point and end of the lever.
Levers can also have a variety of effects based on how the forces are applied. For instance, a class 2 lever is inclined to turn in the opposite direction when the force of effort is applied (like a teeter-totter). The forces created when you push on the handle of a front door can result in rotational effects similar to those.
However, levers don't create energy. They just multiply the force you apply by making a small amount effort across a large distance into a larger amount of force applied over a shorter distance. This is what allows you to do more work in less time, which is why levers are commonly employed to lift heavy objects or moving large quantities of cargo. The lever principle is also employed in everyday tools such as crowbars. Hammer claws fishing rods, hammer claws and even your own legs, as you are standing on the hand brake of your vehicle.
Lever/Pad
Lever pad handles, also referred to as upvc door handles feature levers on both sides to operate the multipoint locks. Lever pad handles are available in a variety of finishes & variations and can be used on a wide range of materials that include UPVC doors, Aluminium doors & Timber Doors. They are sold in pairs for the doors, both exterior and interior with screws and spindles included. They are also available in both handed and unhandled versions for different users.
These are often used for new constructions and are installed to replace existing doors made of upvc. The levers are lifted to open all multipoint locks and the key is turned to lock or close the door. They offer some extra security when compared to standard lever door handles since the locking mechanism is only accessible by entering the door with keys in the event that the door is locked.
They're not as secure as a cylinder bolt however they are an affordable alternative to add security. The only drawback is that they do not offer the same level of protection as a cylinder lock and they don't restrict access to the home when the door is left open.
We have a wide selection of lever pad upvc handles that are manufactured by leading manufacturers in the field. They will therefore be made with high quality components. In general, they are supplied with a manufacturer's warranty.

They will have an 82mm cylinder center on the inside and 62mm on the outside. They are also fitted with two spindle followers. Some are fitted with the back plate whilst others are removable to allow for different fixing centers.
Lever/Snib
Lever latches are the most basic of door handles are commonly used. The lever is pushed downwards to operate a simple latch inside the door, which can be locked with keys. The levers for privacy are using the same principle however, with the addition of a snib (like the doorknob).
A snib button can be extremely useful, particularly for homes where it's important to maintain privacy or security. You can use the snib handle to prevent your guests from entering the home until they are ready. This kind of handle is also popular for interior doors such as bedrooms, where you may require a lock to prevent access from the outside.
Snib buttons may cause problems in certain situations, particularly when you have locks that are old and warped doors. If the snib is applied in error or by a person who isn't used to it, the door may close and lock you out. You can usually get in by knocking the door frame or letterbox. But this isn't the best option.
If your uPVC has a snib we recommend
