Players can upgrade their weapons and equipment using new accessories. They can also improve its base stats or add additional benefits. To upgrade items, the player must have the item upgrades in their inventory and have access to the kiln.

Items that have weak bases, such as rings, can be upgraded into more robust bases. Items with strong bases, such as the Titans of eth have little change in their stats.

Upgrade components

Upgrade components are items that can be used to upgrade trinkets, armor, weapons and gathering tools, providing an attribute bonus or extra effect when the equipment is used. They can be bought from vendors, retrieved as loot by enemies, or received from chests or missions. Some upgrades can have additional cosmetic effects. Most upgrades require that the equipment be above a certain point before they can be upgraded.

To upgrade an item of armor, the player has to choose it and click the Upgrade button on the toolbar. This will display a preview on the right side of the screen showing what the expected upgrade statistics will be and also the necessary element or material required to make that happen.

There are three types of upgrade components: universal upgrades, prefix upgrades, and suffix upgrades. Universal upgrades, which comprise gems, can be put in any type of equipment and offer less bonuses than upgrade components that are restricted to a specific type. Infusions are gems that can only be used in legendary and ascended equipment. They offer the same benefits as jewels, but cannot be used in any other equipment. Suffix upgrades can be added to gathering tools. They add the suffix to the end of item names. For example the addition of a Glyph would make the staff wrapping of Minor Vigor into a Canthan staff wrapping of Minor Vigor.

If a player upgrades a gathering tool, and then replaces glyphs with another glyph, the old one will be returned to their inventory. However replacing any other upgrade component will damage it, with the exception of inscriptions which can be freely swapped.

Leveling

The upgrade system in Path of Exile has some important variations from earlier versions. Gear is now categorised in tracks and each item can be upgraded so many times before it is "leveled out." The costs for upgrading increase with each level, but the materials needed do not. This allows players to focus their efforts on a select few items and maximize the effect of these items rather than spreading upgrade costs over multiple pieces.

Once an Item Upgrader mod has been leveled out, it will be able to receive a new set of upgrade components, as well as an increase in the likelihood that the upgrade will succeed. This bonus is known as the Artisan's Power and it resets to 0 in the event of failure, or increases when the upgrade succeeds.

When a piece of equipment is upgraded to its highest level, it will be able to receive affixes that will boost its attributes. This process can take up to two hours and will cost the same amount of material however it will have less chance of success.

To determine the height of a structure, engineers will employ a level to compare the measurement to a known reference point like a benchmark, or the ground's elevation. This is referred to as a "level-loop." It involves taking readings using the level and backsight rod before turning the level and making the foresight rod reading. This method guarantees that buildings are constructed to the highest level of accuracy and security.

Rerolling

Rerolling is the process of altering the upgrade components of an item. It is a crucial aspect of the game, and it can improve an item's damage, strength or other attributes. This can be done through the item menu or using the Reroll button on an upgraded item. Rerolling is costly and should only be performed in rare cases.

Reroll tokens are derived by recycling upgraded items. These tokens can be used to upgrade the original item or another similar item. Recyclable items have an indicator that indicates the level of upgrade. The amount of level that has been filled is contingent on the rarity and the upgrade cost of the item.

In the past, some upgrade items were affixed with priority that made them easier to roll for than others. This meant that you'd be able to get the stats that were important most to your build more often than others. These included things like the armor's total armor, thorns, and duration reduction stats that are controlled or the weapon's bonus attack speed and critical strike chance.

This was changed in the latest patch. Priority affixes have been removed and all upgrades will have the same chances of rolling for all stats. This could be a positive or bad thing depending on your needs and expectations from your equipment.
