The item upgrade lets players boost the gear rating of an item up 700 points, and then add a final bonus. Items can be upgraded if they are in your inventory and you bring them to the kiln.

Certain items can be upgraded for their unique stats (like an ideally rolled breakpoint armour used in melee PvP) while others like weapons don't change much post upgrade and thus aren't worth upgrading.

Weapons

Upgrades to weapons can improve their numerical stats, like attack damage, crit chance, and PvE/PvP damage. Weapons also have an unchanging bonus that increases their damage per second. A lot of weapons also come with a fixed bonus which is activated when three or more identical weapons are used in a single unit. This bonus can sometimes be greater than the damage a weapon upgrade can do on its own.

The cost of upgrading a weapon depends on its rarity and level. For instance the weapon with a +2 rating will require two regular Smithing Stones to upgrade while an upgrade of +3 requires four. The number of stones needed to upgrade a weapon will continue to increase until it is required to use a higher tier of Smithing Stones, at which point it will reset to one.

The upgrade of weapons can also change their base stats. While this is generally an excellent thing but it can also have negative consequences too. Upgrades can render items inaccessible, unless you're very lucky.

Armor items can also be upgraded to increase their effectiveness. In the case of chests or helms, it will boost the defense of its base, while gloves and belts improve their required strength and dexterity. Armor also offers a reroll option for its Enhanced Defense%, meaning that it may reroll to a lower value.

The upgrade template of a weapon will display the new stats it will gain upon upgrading, as well as the values of these stats. Potions
