The word"practical" is derived from Latin Praegere, which means "to take hold of." Pragmatism is a philosophic tradition that believes that knowing the world and agency are interdependent. One of the most prominent figures among the classical pragmatics was John Dewey (1859 to 1952). He is well-known for his broad-ranging contributions to various areas of inquiry in philosophy such as ethics, social theory, philosophy of education, law, aesthetics and the philosophy of religion. In the final years of his career He began to understand pragmatism in terms of the philosophy of democracy.
