World of Warcraft Item Upgrades
Item upgrades are a way to boost the stats of an item. Based on the type of upgrade you choose, it can increase the rarity of an item, or its Mark Level, and also boost other stats.
Each item comes with a track for upgrading it. Each upgrade increases the cost of the following one by a set amount.
Item Level
The value of an item's basic stats increases when it is upgraded. This is the sum of all of its leveled up perks (attack magic attack, attack defense). Upgrades can be expensive, dependent on who you employ and what you decide to do. This is due to how many perks have to be replaced in order for the item to get upgraded.
The level of an item is a popular measurement of power and can be found on all item tooltips. It can also be used to limit the amount of PvP gear players can wear as PvP is restricted at lower levels. The average level of the item can be found on the character sheet.
Using the item level can help players compare the potency of gear when they decide to buy or sell. It's an indicator of the item's condition and quality. Comparing items from a vendor's stock can be done using the item level.
The item level can be viewed by pressing the ALT key on a PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. This will display the item's full description, including ilvl. You can also find it by hovering over an

There are several theories about how the item level calculation is carried out. One theory is that the item level is a number that comes from a formula that determines the amount an item's stats are worth. It is based on the fact that different advantages are valued differently and that gems in the sockets increase the item's value. This process can result in a calculated value for the item's ilvl, which is usually quite close to the actual Blizzard level of the item.
It's not the only thing that affects the level of an item. The degree of the area in which the item was dropped may change its stats. For instance, it could increase the item's haste, or crit rating. Items that drop in higher-level situations will have higher ilvl.
Item Stats
The item's stats can be the difference between a good or bad item for players. The game uses them in a variety of ways to encourage players not to restrict themselves to a particular weapon, and to encourage players to explore other weapons. The base stats of a weapon are enhanced by the weapon's stat mods which are then increased by the player's skill.
Upgrades to an item can increase its stats. The rarity of an item determines the upgrade cost. An item that is white or grey for instance, can only be upgraded one time, while an item with rare tiers can be upgraded several times at higher prices.
Another way to change the stats on an item is through affixes. These are special stat boosts that can be added to an item by the player and they come in all shapes and sizes. Affixes are used to give items extra damage, special abilities (such as the ability to revive dead or reduce cooling downs), or to differentiate them by naming them.
All affixes are currently re-rolled by selecting them in the upgrade window pressing the green button. This will cost a specific amount in gold and other items. These can be used as
upgrade item gauges as with other methods of rerolling.
Players can upgrade an item with a specific stat or reroll affixes. The range of stats determined by the item's level. However each
item upgrader mod will contain at least one stat within that range unless they are an exclusive item, or an item that has a God Roll from a boss in a raid.
Another thing that could be changed is the option to upgrade equipment without having to roll the affixes, or choose which stats to enhance. But as with base equipment, this would need to be carried out on a per-item basis and the item compare interface will not show all the stats that could be either lost or gained at the same time.
Item Luck
The Luck stat of a player increases the probability of obtaining items as well as the properties created by loot and the strength of these properties. However, it doesn't directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It merely gives the player a chance to upgrade their equipment earlier in the game and is therefore more useful in the initial game run as opposed to later ones, as most players prioritize greater weapon scaling and defense over damage gains.
In addition to influencing the discovery of items, Luck also increases the chance of success when upgrading items using the Blacksmith. This should not be confused with the Blacksmith's overall upgrade probability that increases with each level and can be further increased by using an anti-material, such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.
Weapons, shields, and armor can be made or spawn using the Luck property, with a default value of 40. These items can then be enhanced by golden ingots, spined leather or oak boards (depending on the type of material used) to give +40 Luck or to boost the Luck of an item up to 140.
Additionally some items, like the Hollow weapon, which is infused with Hollow can be outfitted to increase the damage of any damage-dealing skill by 5%. These items can be purchased in the shop or created by using the appropriate ingredients.
Item Failure
Upgrades to items are costly and not all upgrades will be successful. However, there are cash shop items which allow players to increase their chances of success or even prevent themselves from losing an
Best item upgrader in the event that the upgrade fails.
The rate of success of an upgrade is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage is the chances of successfully upgrading that item, and can be increased by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. There are limitations to the extent to which the success rates can be improved and the probability of an upgrade failing cannot exceed 100%.
The success of an
item upgrade is also affected by the Luck of that item. Every item has an initial success rate of 25%, and every item with Luck increases the chance of success by five percent.
The
item upgrade overlays are rendered above the items in the inventory. This can block enchantment effects as well as other effects. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
