It comes with advanced features such as enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company's robot vacuum with mop that can wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).

It's also the sole robot vacuum/mop to score the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our testing. This is due to a mix of high-tech sensors, including a structured light system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot vacuums uk we tested that could fill and empty its basestation autonomously. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop mops.

The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is easy to use. It comes with a simple mobile application interface, and it integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The smart robot uses a combination of LIDAR and structured light to create the floor plan and detect obstacles, making it more efficient than some of its premium rivals. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards, although this wasn't quite reliable in our tests and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.

The vacuum cleaner comes with an maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also features "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates how hard the vac works and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home according to how dirty they tend to be.

For larger houses, it's worth opting for models that has zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean one particular area of your home by using the app or via voice commands.
