Noah Pinsonnault is a product review analyst for the Home Care and Cleaning Lab at Good Housekeeping.
He evaluates and tests cleaning appliances, focusing on robot vacuums and mopping combos. These multitaskers can be ideal for those who want to eliminate mopping from their list of things to do. Some have great navigation and obstacle avoidance. Others even wash and refill mopping pads for a hands-free clean.
The Eufy S1 Pro
If you're looking for a robotic vacuum that also mop, this is the model to go for. It's smaller than other models on this list which makes it easier to maneuver in tight corners and under furniture. It features a 220 degree lidar, which when combined with its 3D Matrix camera system gives it some of the best navigation and object avoidance I've ever seen in a
robot hoover vacuum. It's got a battery of 4600mAh that can last up to 170 mins when mopping and sucking is set to standard mode. (It can run longer when it is set to turbo). It can even return to the dock to replenish its battery midway through an efficient.
It's fast and does an excellent job of cleaning my two bedroom apartment. It vacuums the carpeted rooms extremely quickly and hardwood floors in the kitchen, hallways, and living room in a single pass. Its suction motor of 8,000pa makes short work of picking up dirt, crumbs and pet hair. Carpet detection automatically boosts power when it comes into contact with rugs, and the two side brushes help draw away debris from corners.
The mopping efficiency is less impressive, though not by much. The rotating mop spins fast and makes use of 2.2lbs to clean dirt and stain. I've noticed that the front arm extends out a little more than other robots. This is useful when getting into narrow corners or on baseboards. Those same front arms can also be used to sweep up larger debris, like broken toys or books.
The S1 Pro is also one of the quietest robot mop and vacuums I've tested. It doesn't make the same volume of sound when mopping or vacuuming and is much quieter than the Narwal Freo X Ultra or RoboRock S7. The only issue is that the S1 Pro must use a exclusive cleaning solution for mopping, and is sold separately from the vacuum. It's easy to install and works well however this is something you'll have to be aware of if you're buying this robot vacuum for the sole purpose of it mopping.
The Roborock Q Revo
The Q Revo stands apart from the majority of robot vacuums that mop in its class. It has a robust suite of features that make it a great option for homeowners looking for an extremely efficient, flexible and adaptable cleaning machine.
The device is equipped with a powerful cleaning system that integrates LiDAR sensor technology with an RGB camera. This enables it to map out your home and also identify furniture and other obstacles. This information can be used to clean intelligently and methodically. This will result in an effective, consistent cleaning that's also fairly quick.
In terms of mopping, the Q Revo's DuoRoller mop pads are capable of reaching many different surfaces. This includes baseboards, corners and other difficult to reach areas. They also come with a stretchy side brush that extends to reach the floor near walls and other fixtures. The mop pads are washable and can be dried to reduce odors and prevent buildup.
Another notable feature is the app-based customization options. The Q Revo lets you alter the suction strength and select a back-and forth or slightly random pattern. You can also adjust the number of passes it should make, which will determine how fast the device will move through your home. You can also decide to turn off the side brush to prevent damaging rugs and carpets.
This device is expensive but has many smart features. It's important to keep in mind that it has regular costs, such as mopping equipment and maintenance. For instance the brushroll should be replaced every six to twelve months or after 300 hours. The filter is to be cleaned every 150 hours, and mop pads should be replaced every one to three month.
This
robot vacuums best vacuum that mops has an excellent rating on Amazon and comes with a wide array of physical automation features. The vacuum also has a power button which doubles as a 'Clean button' and a Home' button to send it home after cleaning. It also comes with a multi-functional dock that automatically emptys the dustbin, refills its water tank for mopping and washes and dries its mop pads.
The Shark Matrix Plus
If you're a professional with a lot of work or just want a cleaner home without spending much time doing chores The Shark Matrix Plus is a solid option. It is a powerful machine with intelligent navigation, and long battery life that makes it easy to keep your home clean with little effort.
The Matrix Plus is a 2-in-1
robot hoover vacuum and mop, which means it can handle mopping and vacuuming. The robot is divided into two modules, a dry bin and water tank that can be easily snapped in and out and a mopping module which includes microfiber pads. It's a little old-fashioned to have separate modules for vacuuming and mopping however it does mean that you don't have to worry about changing out disposable bags or refilling the tank with water.
The Matrix Plus performed well at both vacuuming and mopping. Its most impressive feature was its precise map of your floorplan, which it uses to determine the path to follow when cleaning. The Matrix Plus was able to navigate effortlessly around furniture, rugs and other obstacles. The app allows you to create 'No-Go Zones' and virtual barriers to prevent certain areas from being cleaned by a mop.
The Matrix Plus also did a surprising job of picking up pet hair. It was able to capture many of the hair sheds from our cats. It even made it into the nooks and crannies on our stairs where other robots have struggled. Its noise levels were fairly low and there were pleasant jingles to let you know that it was starting and working towards its goal.
The app was too easy and you had to change the modules every time you switched between vacuuming and mops. The app can't store multiple maps, which could be a hassle if you have a home with a mix of floors. The Matrix Plus is a good option for those looking for a smart robot that can do both vacuuming and mopping.
The Yiko X1 Omni
The X1 Omni robot vacuum is the most expensive in our review. It does however, have some unique features which make it worth looking into. The X1 Omni is most well-known for its massive dock that doubles as a charging base for the
robot vacuum cleaners best, a cleaning sink and two water tanks that are 4 liters in size. It also houses two bins: a 2.5-liter dust bin as well as a 2.5 milliliter dust bin.
The base also has a variety of control buttons that let you manually start a cleaning task, recall the robot, or use the dock's automatic emptying process. Press two of the buttons to turn off a child lock which is a great option for parents concerned about their children playing with the vacuum.
The Omni Omni like other robotic vacuums uses its camera to identify obstacles and furniture in its path. It will stay clear of them. True Mapping 2.0 navigation maps your home up to four times faster than laser detection systems.
This can cause the X1 to become stuck when it gets entangled in an obstacle, such as a power cable draped over a rug. It will not work until you untangle it manually. While this was rare however, it was a gruelling experience when it happened and especially because the X1 Omni does not have a "stuck" status alert in its app.
Another possible issue is one of the biggest drawbacks is X1 Omni's inability to automatically change between vacuuming and mopping modes during cleaning. You'll have to manually switch between the two modes, which isn't too bad but mopping pads don't get washed or dried between uses. This could lead to mildew and mold.
The X1 Omni looks great, thanks to the Jacob Jensen design team (of Bang & Olufsen fame) who designed the sleek modern base and mopping pad. It's a significant difference from the utilitarian black bases of competitors like Roborock or iRobot. And it's a welcome sight for an industry dominated by boxy units.
