Carpet detection increases power automatically when it encounters rugs and the dual side brushes help pull out debris from corners.

I've noticed that the front arm protrudes out a bit more than other robots. This is helpful when getting into tight corners or along baseboards. The base also has a variety of buttons to control the system. These allow you to manually start cleaning and then recall the robot vacuums that mop or start the dock's auto-emptying process. Press two buttons to switch off the child lock. This is a wonderful feature for parents who are worried about their children playing with the vacuum.

Like other robotic vacuums the X1 Omni uses its camera to spot furniture and obstacles in its path and eliminate them. True Mapping 2.0 navigation maps your home up to four times faster than laser detection systems.

The X1 can be prone to become stuck if it gets caught in an obstacle, such as a power cable draped over a rug. It will not work until you remove it manually. While it was not common, it was a frustrating experience when it did happen and especially because the X1 Omni doesn't come with an "stuck" status alert in its application.

Another issue that could be a problem is one of the biggest drawbacks is X1 Omni's inability to automatically switch between mopping and vacuuming modes during the cleaning process. You'll have to manually switch between the two modes, which isn't too bad except for the fact that mopping pads aren't cleaned and dried between uses which could lead to mildew or mold.

On the bright side the X1 Omni is a beautiful-looking robot, thanks to the design team at Jacob Jensen (of Bang & Olufsen fame) who dreamed up its sleek, modern-looking base and mopping pad apparatus. It's a big departure from the utilitarian, black bases of competitors like Roborock and iRobot and is a refreshing sight in a space that is dominated by clunky boxes and clunky models.
