Fortunately, in 2022, the new owner of Miami Seaquarium pledged to work with an organization of Lolita advocates called Friends of Toki and the Lummi tribe, who consider her a relative in a plan to eventually transport her to the open water. The plan would have included a facility in Washington's west coast, where she could live for the duration of her life, receive medical attention and be monitored by researchers. The sanctuary pen was expected to be hundreds of times bigger than her Miami home and be surrounded by ocean, not concrete tanks.
