Upgrades provide a guaranteed boost to certain stats. Each upgrade boosts the level of an item by 3. Each upgrade item also increases a random substat.

Upgraded gear is generally more valuable, unless the item has a low requirement by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a large variance in stats (like Eth Titan weapons). Upgrades are not as valuable for those with higher variance because of the requirement to roll a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader lets players upgrade their gear by transferring the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied on any type of armor or weapons. The item upgrade used to upgrade the item is discarded and cannot be used again. Upgrades can also be applied to enchantments.

The upgrader is located in every major city, and is accessible at any time to upgrade your gear. It is recommended that you visit the upgrader once every few weeks to keep your equipment up to date.

The cost of upgrades will depend on the current level of the item being upgraded, but will always be less expensive than purchasing new gear from other sources. Upgrades like upgrading a Benthic chest to the level of ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. Buying a similar item will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to purchase tools, armor, weapon, and accessory upgrades. They can be purchased through NPCs who sell upgrades to item owners in a variety of currencies. They can also find them on random treasure lists. Once an upgrade has been purchased, it can be used on any weapon or tool with the help of button, which will show an item's preview when it is upgraded in the event that the player has enough materials.

The upgrade cost depends on the slot of the item level Upgrade and the current item level and the weapon's price is higher than gloves or bracers for instance. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones and a few crests, with certain upgrades offering discounts to lower the cost of Flightstones or crests used. Once an item has been upgraded to a certain level it is able to be degraded and returned to the upgrader for a lesser amount of both currencies.

Many locations have upgraders for their items, including the main Island and some outposts. The NPCs provide an upgrade discount and a chance to obtain a new upgrade recipe. The discount for upgrades increases depending on the amount of items that are being upgraded. It can also be increased by having players complete some specific achievements or quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an upgrader for items at the start unlike Cromwell from Baldur's Gate II. Instead the NPCs that can be used to upgrade require several methods which is both an improvement and a drawback.

In Season 3, many new features have been added to the upgrade system. After an upgrade has been completed to a certain level of item for an armor slot, upgrading other items to the same level, will cost less. This is true even if those items are from another set of gear.

The amount of Valorstones needed for upgrades is reduced, and the discount is available across all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests needed to upgrade is reduced as well, but is only available after certain milestones are achieved.

Crests

When it comes to upgrading gear in WoW, players have a variety of choices. Flightstones are an item that is available to everyone for upgrading. Crests are more special and are utilized during specific item upgrader kit level upgrades. Crests are a key element of the Dragonflight gear progression system that was introduced in 10.1 and are available in four ranks.

The first thing to note is that crests can only be spent on equipment of a particular rank, and each rank has different requirements for upgrading. The most basic and straightforward upgrade item route costs 15 crests while the more complex one may require as many as 20 crests, based on the type of equipment being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through finishing content at the appropriate level. This could be by doing outdoor activities or taking on dungeons and raids of all difficulties to get lower-tier gear or Mythicbosses for raids, or dungeons with heroic difficulty to obtain endgame gear. Crests can be exchanged at an upgrader NPC like Cuzolth in Dornogal or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to obtain the appropriate upgrade pathways and steps.

The use of these currencies isn't too complicated, but the system introduces some changes to the overall upgrade process. For instance, when an item reaches the highest level of upgrading for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic), it won't require Flightstones to be upgraded. This allows players to upgrade their gear to the highest level possible for all their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.

Another notable change is that crests have one purpose and it's crucial to use them wisely. It is best to use your Whelpling-rank crests on the top-quality equipment that you can find, and save Drake and Wyrm Crests to be used for the next set of upgrades. This is particularly true for items like rings and trinkets that fill multiple slots on the character that will be able to benefit from the discount for all accounts when all of the slots are full of high-quality gear.
