Noah Pinsonnault is a product review analyst for the Home Care and Cleaning Lab at Good Housekeeping.
He tests and evaluates cleaning equipment, focusing on
best robot vacuum vacuums and mopping combos. These multitaskers can be a great option for those who want to eliminate mopping from their list of things to do. Some models have superior navigation and obstacles avoidance. Some even wash and refill mopping pads for a hands-free clean.
The Eufy S1 Pro
This is the model to pick if you are looking for a
best robot vacuum that mops vacuum cleaner that also mop. It's smaller than other models which makes it easier to maneuver in tight corners or under furniture. It comes with a 220 degree Lidar which, when combined with the 3D Matrix Camera System, provides one of my top navigation and object avoidance capabilities I've seen in robot vacuums. It packs a powerful 4600mAh battery that lasts for up to 170-minutes, if mopping and suction are set to standard mode (it can last longer in turbo). It will even return to its dock to recharge its battery in mid-clean.
It's quick and does an excellent job of cleaning my two bedroom apartment. It can vacuum carpeted rooms fast and hardwood floors in the living room, kitchen, and hallways with just one pass. Its motor of 8,000pa is able to remove dirt, pet hair, and even droppings effortlessly. Carpet detection increases power automatically when it comes in contact with carpets and the two side brushes help draw away debris from corners.
The mopping performance, while still impressive, isn't as effective. The rotating mop spins at a high velocity and it pushes down with 2.2lbs of force, easily cleaning up dirt and stains. I've noticed that the front arm sticks out a bit more than other
robots that vacuum and mop. This is helpful when you're trying to get into difficult corners or along baseboards. The same front arms can also be used to scoop up larger objects like books and broken toys.
Another great feature is that the S1 Pro is one of the quietest robot vacuums and mop I've ever tried. It doesn't create the same amount of noise when mopping or vacuuming, and is much quieter than the Narwal Freo X Ultra or RoboRock S7. The S1 Pro is only limited by the fact that it has to use a proprietary mopping solution and is sold separately. It's easy to install and is effective however this is something that you'll need to keep an eye on in case you're purchasing this vacuum solely for the purpose of mopping.
The Roborock Q Revo
The Q Revo is different from other robot vacuums in its class. It is a powerful cleaning machine with a range of features.
The device comes with a powerful cleaning system that incorporates LiDAR sensor technology and an RGB camera. This enables it to map out the home, detect furniture and other obstacles. This information can be used to clean intelligently and efficiently. This will ensure an even and thorough clean, while also being relatively quick.
In terms of mopping, the Q Revo's DuoRoller mop pads are capable of reaching a wide range of surfaces. This includes baseboards, corners and other hard to reach spots. They also come with a stretchy side brush that can be extended to reach the floor near walls and other fixtures. In addition the mop pads can be cleaned and dried to prevent the build-up of dust and reduce odors.
App-based customization is another notable feature. The Q Revo allows you to alter the amount of suction and choose between a back-andforth, or a more random patterns. You can also alter the number of passes it must make, which will affect how quickly the device can move through your home. You can also decide to turn off the side brush to prevent damaging rugs and carpets.
The device has a expensive price, but is packed with a wide array of innovative features. It is important to note that the device is subject to recurring expenses in the form mopping equipment and regular maintenance. For example, a brushroll needs to be replaced every six to twelve months or after 300 hours. The filter is to be cleaned every 150 hours, and the mop pads must be changed every three months.
This robot vacuum mop has an excellent Amazon rating and comes with many physical automation features. The vacuum also has an power button that doubles as the 'Clean button' and a Home button that allows it to go home after cleaning. It also comes with a multi-functional dock that automatically emptys the dustbin, refills its water tank, and wash and dry its mop pads.
The Shark Matrix Plus
If you're a professional with a lot of work or someone who just wants to have a clean home without spending much time doing chores, the Shark Matrix Plus is a excellent option. Its incredibly fast performance, sophisticated navigation and long battery life make it easy to keep a clean home with little effort.
The Matrix Plus robot vacuum is a 2-in-1 mop and vacuum. It is able to perform vacuuming as well as mopping. The robot comes with two modules: a combined dry bin and water reservoir, and a separate mopping module with microfiber pads that snap in and out of place. Separate modules for vacuuming and mopping may appear a bit dated however, they mean that you don't need to worry about changing disposable bags or refueling the water tank.
The Matrix Plus performed well at both vacuuming and mopping. Its most impressive feature was its precise floorplan that it uses to create an outline for cleaning. It was easy for the Matrix Plus to navigate around furniture carpets, rugs and other obstacles. The app lets you create 'No-Go Zones' or virtual barriers that prevent certain areas from being cleaned by mop.
We also discovered that the Matrix Plus did surprisingly well in picking up hair of pets. It was able capture a large amount of hair that shed by our cats and even found its way into the nooks and crannys of our stairs, where other robots struggled. It was quiet and had some nice jingles that signalled when it was about to start or finished its work.
Its biggest drawbacks were its simple app and the requirement to switch out the modules whenever switching between vacuuming and mopping. The app is not able to save multiple maps. This could be an issue if your house has a variety of floors. The Matrix Plus robot is a great choice for those who want a smart device that can mop and vacuum.
The Yiko X1 Omni
The X1 Omni robot vacuum is the most expensive in our review. However, it has certain unique features that are worth a look. The X1 Omni's biggest draw is its huge dock that serves as the robot's charging base as well as housing for two 4-liter water tanks, a clean sink and an automatic 2.5-liter dust bin that is automatically eliminates.
The base also comes with a set of buttons to control the system. These let you manually start a cleaning job, recall the robot, or run the dock's auto-emptying process. Hold down two buttons to switch off the child lock. This is a wonderful feature for parents who are worried about their children playing with the vacuum.
Like other robotic vacuums, the Omni Omni uses its camera to spot furniture and obstacles in its path and eliminate them. True Mapping 2.0 navigation maps your home up to four times faster than laser detection systems.
Unfortunately, this means that the X1 Omni could occasionally get caught up in obstacles, like an electrical cord dangling across a rug that it becomes stuck and stops working until you free it. This was a rare occurrence, but frustrating nonetheless, because the X1 doesn't have an "stuck status" alert in its application.
Another issue that could be a problem is another issue is the X1 Omni's inability to automatically change between vacuuming and mopping modes during the cleaning process. You will need to manually switch between the two modes, which isn't an issue apart from the fact that the mopping pads aren't washed and dried between uses which could lead to mildew or mold.
On the bright side, the X1 Omni is a beautiful-looking robot thanks to the design team at Jacob Jensen (of Bang & Olufsen fame) who dreamed up its modern and sleek base as well as mopping pad. It's a huge contrast to the basic black bases of rivals such as Roborock or iRobot. And it's a welcome sight for the market that is dominated by boxes.
