It's therefore prone to become stuck on socks and shoes and couldn't navigate rooms with lots of people well in our tests. It also doesn't come with cameras that let it see the corners of an area.

Still, it's very good for those who want to save money on a Roomba from iRobot and have a bare-floored home or office. It's also quiet and can be used while you're at work or in school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming feature that's available in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes that don't stay on very well and can't deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 comes with a self-emptying cradle however. And, if you need to, you can swap the mopping pad for dry ones in a matter of minutes.

The smart robot utilizes LIDAR and structured lighting to draw out floorplans and identify obstacles. It is more efficient in its navigation than its premium competitors. It also has a front mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards however this was not foolproof in our tests and could be confused with power cords or obstructions.

The vacuum has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also comes with "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the intensity at which the vacuum works and alters the frequency of cleaning for different areas of your home according to the amount of dirt they tend to be.

For larger homes, it's worth opting for one that has zone or spot cleaning modes that let you tell the robot to clean one specific area of your home by using the app or voice controls. A stair mode can be beneficial if you have large furniture. For families with busy schedules, a recharge function and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to continue from where it left off could be very beneficial.

(It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses with one pad, which uses a reciprocating motion, which does a better job cleaning than the other robot mop cleaners we've tried. It's also self-sufficient with a full-featured app and a self emptying base that can be washed.

The iRobot app is designed to guide you through a mapping run which collects information about your floorplan as well as any "no go" areas you've marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules or create an automatic spot-clean. You can also use it to prioritize your dirtiest areas to improve performance.
