Robots that vacuum and mop offer the convenience of cleaning both dry debris (dust dirt) and wet messes (spills, staining) in one go without having to swap out devices. They can also reduce space when compared to two separate units, particularly in smaller living spaces.

A good combination bot will provide excellent navigation and obstacles avoidance. Look for models that can automatically empty their bin and fill up their water tank and machine-wash their mopping pads with the dock that is specifically designed for them.

The S1 Pro is a powerful little machine that mops up a storm and also vacuums well. The mops spin at high speeds and exert 2.2 pounds (1kg) of force, which makes short work of pet hair, dirt, and dried sticky spills. The vacuum cleaner has four power settings, a range of brushes and attachments as well as an intuitive app that lets you select the type of cleaning you'd like to do for each room.

You can, for example ask the robot to clean the kitchen and living room thoroughly, but leave the bedroom to itself. The S1 Pro has excellent front collision sensors and smart navigation technology. It is able to detect small obstacles that other models cannot. Its only minor issue is that it tends to hit objects and walls at full speed. However, a quick glance at the history of cleaning in the app tells you exactly what it's doing and where it's headed, and which obstacles it's avoided.

The docking station features an LCD display that displays the need for maintenance, such as emptying debris and cleaning the dirty water tank. It can also mix detergent into the tank in a controlled manner by using a 600ml eufy solution.

Both the S1 Pro mop and vacuum come with a long-running time. The mop is able to run for 184 mins in Quiet Mode and the vacuum can last for 136 minutes in standard mode, before having to recharge or returning to the base. You can view the full cleaning details in the app, which is well laid out and easily understood, though we would have liked to be able to differentiate between a vacuum and mop and vacuum clean when looking at a clean area in the history of cleaning.

2. Roborock S8 Pro Ultra

The Roborock S8 Pro Ultra is the latest version of the company's top robot vacuum and mop. This year's model has an agitator that doubles as its mopping pad. This enhances the cleaning capabilities of carpets with this model. The S8 Pro Ultra also has enhanced suction power, which allows it to pick up small hairs and other debris that other robotic cleaners may be unable to pick up.

As with the other two Roborock models I've tried, this one has reactive 3D obstacle avoidance and infrared technology to can help to avoid furniture, walls and other obstacles. The S8 Pro Ultra goes one step further and incorporates two cameras that can recognize objects, determining whether they are walls or other surfaces. It then can automatically alter its direction and clean them without missing a beat.

It's the most expensive robot vacuum cleaner uk I've ever tested, but it also has the most features. Its sleek and angular design is striking and comes with three buttons that are physically accessible. The power button, which also restarts the cleaning process mop button, which doubles as a child-lock and a home-button that can bring the robot to its dock. The hinged lid opens to reveal a 350ml dustbin and 200ml of water tank. The water tank is automatically filled and the bin automatically refills.

The only downside I found with this model was that the VibraRise mop pads mount is not removable. While you can replace the mopping cloth (if it's required), it's a pain to remove the mount to wash it manually. I've found that any plush carpet that the best robot vacuum and mop touches will come into contact with the rough Velcro-like fastener mechanism on the mount, which can cause abrasions.

The S8 Pro Ultra has a number of smart features, including support for Google Home, Amazon Alexa and Siri. The Roborock app is where you can manage and configure these features. It also contains maps and advanced mopping options. The app allows you to schedule cleanings and track battery life. But you'll need to jump through a few hoops to allow voice control with this model which is unfortunate considering how well it performs otherwise.

3. Dreame X40

The Dreame X40 robot vacuum and mop is a market leader with its innovative features, top suction power, and advanced mopping capabilities. Its innovative design allows for customised and efficient cleaning while reducing time.

The app is simple to use and understand The X40 is equipped with many clever features that are easy to set up. Users can program the X40 to clean at specific times. They can also adjust suction power, change modes, view floor plans and maps and control mopping settings. The X40 can also monitor its progress and notify you when it's done.

The X40 is easy to maintain and comes with numerous features that make it an excellent option for busy families. Its docking station automatically empties the dustbin into a large 3.2 L bin, washes mop pads and refills them with clean water and cleaning solution. It can also detect whether the mop pad is at its maximum capacity and alert you to the situation before it overflows.

4. L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra robot is one of the most expensive models available. It has a number of characteristics that make it stand out. Smart DuoScrub, a new feature in its mop heads, makes use of two mop heads that are high-speed to scrub floors more thoroughly. It also has a suction force of 7,000Pa. This is significantly higher than that of the Roborock S8 Pro Ultra or Ecovacs Deebot T20 Omni and can remove pet hair and other small dirt particles - as well as picking up spills and wet spots.

The mop is cleaned and dried in the base station each time they are used. This is a great feature because it prevents the build-up of odours and mould in storage, and also makes the mop system a lot more efficient. The mopping is also well-designed and the double-rotating mops work well on hard floors and in corners. The MopExtend feature lets them reach up to 2mm below baseboards.
