What is a bedside crib?
A
bedside crib that turns into cot crib, also referred as a bassinet, or co-sleeper is a baby cot that is attached to an adult bed. This allows your child to sleep right next to you in safety. It is a safe method of co-sleeping that doesn't increase the risk of SIDS, like bedsharing. It can also help you bond with your new baby.
These cots often come with a side that can be adjusted so that you can easily reach your baby throughout the night for feeding and comforting. This is particularly helpful for mothers recovering from a c-section. Many are also mobile or foldable, which means you can bring them along on trips and use them as a temporary sleeping solution for infants who aren't quite ready to move into a cot that is full size.
Look for a crib with an air-conditioned mattress, as well as a protective cover that will protect your baby from stains. You should also pick up some baby-safe add-ons like a blanket, teether and a cuddly toys.
If you're looking for a more long-term alternative, some cribs are equipped with conversion kits that allow you to convert them into a cot or toddler bed when the time comes. This can extend their lifespan and make the transition a lot easier. Some have a removable top section that transforms into an infant bed, and some can be used on either the regular or high-rise adult bed. This is a great option for families that plan to travel frequently or switch between bedrooms at night. Consider the size of your bedroom to ensure that you fit in the crib comfortably. Many cribs come with an riser that can be used to create an inclined position for infants who suffer from reflux.
The Joie Roomie Glide
Known for their high-quality baby products for babies, the English brand Joie has entered the world of cribs for bedside use with the Roomie Glide. This crib was designed to allow parents to bond and sleep side by side with their children without sharing one bed. It's packed with features that help make bonding between parent and baby safe, simple and enjoyable.
One of the key features is a soft rocking motion that can be activated at the touch of a button. This will help soothe your baby to sleep with a gentle rhythm that doesn't disrupt their normal sleeping routine. This is ideal for toddlers and older babies who struggle to settle. It can also help with digestive issues like reflux and colic.
The crib can be locked in its place after the rocking has been finished to stop it from moving. It can be secured to the bed's side with a strap and clip attachment. This makes it stable and secure allowing you to get a good night's sleep without having to worry about your little one sliding off into the middle of the room. The cocoon's rounded shape has soft padding on the sides and double mesh windows at both ends. This allows airflow while keeping your baby safe.
The mattress included is soft and comfortable, and has an easily removable cover. The crib is simple to put together and take down thanks to an aluminum frame that is lightweight and makes it extremely portable. The four lockable rubber-covered wheels ensure that the crib does not leave marks on your flooring and are easy to move. The crib is easy to clean with the fabric that wipes clean and can be easily packed in bags for overnight stays.
The Tutti Bambini CoZee Air
Designed to be a safe crib for babies from birth to six months old, this premium model features rocking bars and castors that allow for ease of movement. Its deluxe airflow mattress offers a comfortable sleep surface while ventilators keep your baby cool. There are 6 different height settings, including an incline setting to aid in reducing reflux and congestion.
The Tutti Bambini COZee air crib comes with a removable fabric and a wipe-clean lining. This makes it much easier to clean than
bedside crib with changing table cribs that are a mess to clean. It also has a top bar which can be easily adjusted to accommodate nighttime feedings without having to fiddle with zips.
Anna found the CoZee to provide a safe, cozy sleeping place for her infant. She loved that it didn't sway like other models, which meant it wasn't waking her at night when she was trying to comfort her baby during feeds. She also liked that the side of the chair was lowered so that she didn't have to reach over her partner in order to carry the child out to feed them at night.
The CoZee is available in oak and charcoal and is a chic addition to the bedroom. It looks more designer than other cribs we've tried, which are often quite utilitarian. It's also lightweight at just 11kg and comes with a carrying case so you can bring it on holiday or when moving house. You only need to purchase a waterproof sheet and a safety strap for co-sleeping. There are step-by-step directions and pictures to assist you in putting it together when you first open the box, making it a one-person job when needed.
The Maxi-Cosi lora
The Iora is a bassinet for the bed that helps parents feel closer to their infant as they sleep. It can be adjusted both up and down and moved to three different slide positions to be placed beside the bed of the parent or in the corner to ensure that the infant is always within reach. The mesh siding lets air circulate through, allowing you to see your baby quickly. And you can stow more pajamas and other supplies in the large storage basket underneath.
As opposed to other bedside crib options Iora is a standout among other bedside cribs. Iora can be folded flat and comes with a bag for
travel cot bedside crib which allows it to be carried anywhere. It was easy to move from room to room and our mum testers felt it was the right size for a bedside crib. They also liked the large storage basket that is ideal for storing nappies or bedding.
This is an excellent choice for parents who are looking to co-sleep, but don't want to share their beds or whose partner may be suffering from mobility issues, such as arthritis or back pain. Our mom testers love the fact that they can easily access their baby in the Iora and it also has an adjustable reflux incline that can help alleviate gas.
Our mums love that it follows NICE guidelines. These are to place an infant in a Moses basket or crib on its own, without toys, blankets and pillows. They also state that the mattress is firm and comfortable for the baby and easy to find sheets for. It isn't as light as the other cribs for
bedside sleeper cot use, though, so if you want something lighter and easier to move around with, think about one of the other options on our list.
