The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored extremely well in our tests on floors that were bare and are especially adept at cleaning hair from dogs. However, they have some flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. One of them is that the Q5's navigation doesn't have AI-powered obstacle avoidance which means it's susceptible to get caught up in shoes and socks, and is unable to navigate rooms with a lot of people efficiently in our tests. It also doesn't have an image sensor that lets it see the corners of a room.

It's still a good deal for those whose office or home has lots of unfinished floors and you're looking to save some money. It's also quiet and works while you are at work or school. It doesn't have the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming feature that's available in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective in mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick well and isn't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying cradle that can be emptied by itself. If you're required to clean the mopping pad, it can be swapped for a wet one in minutes.

2. IRobot Roomba

It's the most efficient robot hoover for carpets, but it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.

It also learns the patterns of your home over time and offer cleaner and more efficient cleaning. The app allows you to customize zones and change the cleaning schedule. It comes with a battery life that is comparable to other models.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

With an elegant, circular design that looks like a regular Roomba rather than the boxy units, this robot vacuum cleaners reviews vacuum and mop combo is among the most appealing looking in our evaluations. The newest model from iRobot is among the most intelligent, with advanced features including Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology as well as future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).

It's also the only robot vacuum or mop that scored an absolute 10 out of 10 in our tests. This is due to the combination of high-tech sensors including a structured light system, a camera and multiple lasers. The only drawback is that the X40 is still a noisy unit. This could be a concern in the mornings before work, or during the night when you're trying to sleep.

It's also a bit costly but not as much as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally powerful and more attractive. This is a dual-purpose vacuum that's extremely powerful however it will cost you more and make more noise.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the high-end robot vacuum and mop. It comes with a variety of advanced features that will make you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaner, similar to Ecovacs the top of the line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It features a multi-functional dock that can automatically emptys the bin of the vacuum, refills the water tank, and washes and drys the mop pads.

The smart robot vacuums that mop employs a combination of LIDAR and structured light to create floor plans and spot obstacles, making it more efficient than its more expensive rivals. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards, though this wasn't foolproof in our tests and could be confused with power cords or obstructions.

The vacuum has a suction maximum of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to finish the job. It also features "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the amount of time the vacuum works and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home in accordance with how dirty they are.

For larger houses it's worth looking for a model that has zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean one particular area of your home via the app or voice commands. A stair mode can be useful if you have a lot furniture. For families with busy schedules, a recharge feature and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to resume where it left off can be very beneficial.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is more advanced than its price would suggest. It is a great job vacuuming, picking up 55% of the debris that was found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with a single pad that uses an oscillating motion that does a better job cleaning than the other mop cleaners for robots we've tried. It's also self-sufficient with a fully-featured application, and a self emptying, washable base.

The well-designed iRobot application guides you through a mapping run that gathers information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you set on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules or to organize an automatic spot-clean. You can also use it to prioritize your dirtiest areas for better performance. The app also gives access to many options, including seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.

It is also able to reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It has a powerful 8000 Pascal suction as well as clever combs for removing pet hair. You can also set up a spot clean that thoroughly cleans a particular area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek and cheaper alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive design, akin to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed to resemble cute eyes. It does a great job vacuuming, but it's more likely to be stuck on low thresholds.
