ford key replacement cost dealer or parts store. The key needs to contain a transponder chip it to be able to start the vehicle. If the key doesn't have a chip, it will only be able to open the door locks.
My son purchased a 2021 ranger at CarMax and it came with just one key. He called a dealership to determine how to obtain a key if there is none. They told him that he would need to bring it in with proof of ownership as well as documents showing that the truck is his own. That seems like an enormous amount of work to go through just to obtain an extra key. What should be his next step? Thanks!
Transponder Keys
In contrast to remote car key fobs that need batteries to function transponder keys are powered by radio signals of low strength. The chip embedded in the head of a transponder keys is activated by the radio signals and can be verified by the computer system of your vehicle. This means that only the original key will be able to start your vehicle, making it difficult for a potential car criminal who would like to jump or hot wire the car to get it going.
When the transponder key is inserted in the ignition and turned on, the key sends a coded signal through the antenna ring to your vehicle's ECM. The ECM will then analyze the code to verify the authenticity of the transponder key. If the transponder key is genuine the car's immobilizer will be deactivated and the engine will start.
A standard transponder key appears like a standard metal key with a plastic cover. It is also known as chip keys. Transponder keys with an embedded keyless entry (Fobik) are different in appearance but function the same.
The chip inside the transponder key has an unique serial number that is incorporated into your vehicle's computer system. This makes the key unique and it can only be used for starting your vehicle. This helps prevent car theft. Modern thieves can bypass the immobilizer and start your vehicle.
In order to copy a transponder keys, they must be cut correctly and accurately programmed by a professional locksmith or by your vehicle's manufacturer. A trained professional can employ a special key programmer to extract the necessary passwords and program them into a brand new transponder key or duplicate the existing one.
Transponder keys cost more than traditional mechanical keys, but they're more secure against automotive theft. Ultimately, the benefits outweigh the upfront costs for most car owners, especially those who need to use their vehicles for work and family. Contact a reputable Mesa locksmith for your car for help in replacing the transponder key.
Remote Start Keys
You'll need the key fobs to be programmed into the vehicle in order to add remote start features to your Ranger. The app is susceptible to connectivity problems and is dependent on Ford's server infrastructure. In addition, the factory-fitted keys fobs can be linked with the vehicle for an extremely secure, reliable and simple method of remote start.
The key fobs are paired with the vehicle using Forscan (the official Ford diagnostic tool). You'll first require the original keys that were fitted to the vehicle at the factory. The keys should have a keypad at the back. The code will be mapped into the PCM when the car is put together. You can find the code for your specific key fob by searching in the Forscan menu under "Prog." After the new fob is connected, you'll need to lock and unlock the vehicle. Press the lock button 3 times, and the remote start button two times in rapid succession. The PCM will confirm the remote start configuration by sounding an alarm.
