As with other premium iRobot models (including the top-rated model) they utilize smart mapping technology to design precise floor plans and eliminate home-based obstacles like cords and furniture legs. They also feature carpet boost, a feature that increases the robot's power when it spots a lot of dirt on the carpet in order to get it cleaned quickly.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored extremely well in our tests of floors with no carpet, and they are particularly adept in cleaning hair from dogs. However, they have a few flaws that keep them from being our top choice. For instance, the Q5's navigation doesn't have AI-powered obstacle avoidance which means it's susceptible to get caught up in shoes and socks, and is unable to navigate rooms with a lot of people well in our tests. It also doesn't come with a camera to look around corners.

It's still a great deal particularly if your home or office has a lot of bare floors and you're looking to save some money. It's also extremely quiet and can be used while you are at work or at school. It doesn't have the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming feature that's offered in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective in mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes that don't stick well and isn't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 comes with a self-emptying cradle, however. And, if you need to, you can switch the mopping pad for dry ones in a matter of just a few seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact, sleek vacuum cleaner that can sweep floors. Its intelligent cleaning maps and nimble navigation make it easy to clean, and effective in tackling larger particles such as pet hair. It also has strong suction and a self-emptying bin. It's the best automatic vacuum cleaner robot hoover for carpets, though it lags behind some competitors in deep cleaning.

This top-performing combination vacuum and mop uses advanced sensor technology to stay clear of obstacles and pet waste and it will learn the layout of your home over time to ensure more efficient cleaning. You can modify its cleaning schedule and customize zones through the well-designed app. It comes with a battery life that is similar to other models.

If the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can tell it to take off and extend its mop. This can help avoid cross-contamination. Its flex arm is also perfect for getting under furniture that is low and along baseboards. However, it's not equipped with the same washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Pro+ as well as the iRobot Combo j9+.

During tests, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop that could complete the entire house with only 66 percent of its battery left. It did a good cleaning job on a variety of rooms and floors with various kinds of flooring, including certain area carpets. Its obstacle detection was top notch and it swiftly eluded fake dog socks, turds, shoes, and bundles of cables.

It's a little more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but it has superior suction and an onboard bin that is automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after it vacuums this feature, which hasn't been seen in other robot vacuum/mop combos.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

This mop and vacuum combination features a sleek, circular look that looks more like a regular Roomba unit than the boxy models from the rivals. It's among our most appealing looking robot vacuums. The latest model from iRobot happens to be its smartest, with advanced features including Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads).

It's also the sole robot vacuum/mop to score an absolute 10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is due to a mix of high-tech sensors including a structured light system, camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that is fully autonomously refill and empty its base station, and boasts an the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.

As with other iRobot models, the X40 is easy to use, offering an intuitive mobile app interface as well as integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only downside is that the X40 is still a loud unit. This could be a problem in mornings before work or in the evening when you're trying to sleep.

It's also somewhat expensive, although it's not as pricey as the Ecovacs Omni or Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra, both of which are equally capable and better-looking. It's a dual-purpose vacuum that's extremely powerful, but it's more expensive and produce more noise.

The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning machine like Ecovacs top-of-the-line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It has a multifunction dock which automatically emptys the vacuum's bin and refills the water tank, as well as washes and dry mop pads.

The smart robot uses an array of LIDAR and structured light to draw out floor plans and identify obstacles, navigating more intelligently than its more expensive competitors. It also has a front-mounted camera to detect hazards in real-time, although this wasn't quite 100% foolproof during our tests and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.

The vacuum has a suction maximum of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to get the job done. If you own a larger home, it's worth choosing a model that has the option of cleaning zones or spots. This allows you to instruct the robot on which part of your home needs to be cleaned using the app or voice control. A stair mode can be useful if you own a number of furniture. Finally, a recharge and resume function that allows your robot vacuum to take over exactly where it left off is great for busy families.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is a smarter cleaner than you'd think from its price. It has a great vacuuming performance, picking up 55% debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses with one pad that has a reciprocating motion that does a better job cleaning than the other robot mop cleaners we've examined. It's also extremely self-sufficient, with a fully-featured application, and a self emptying base that is washable.

The iRobot app is designed to guide you through an exercise in mapping, which gathers information on your floorplan as well as any "no go" areas that you've marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, arrange an area for cleaning or to sort out your rooms with the most dirt for better performance. The app also grants access to a host of features like seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.

Its shape is more rectangular than other best robot hoover vacuums, meaning it can reach corners and under furniture more easily. It also has strong 8000 Pascal suction and combs with intelligent technology for hair of pets. You can also create a spot-clean that thoroughly cleans a particular area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and cheaper alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It is more appealing in its design, similar to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are shaped like cute little eyes. It does a good job vacuuming, but it is more susceptible to getting caught on low thresholds and is a bit louder than the other top robot vacuums we've tried. It also has a less user-friendly app and a small base station that isn't able to double as an emptying bin.
