Both the Q5 and the Q7 Max Series get very high scores on our floor tests that test for bare floors and are particularly effective at cleaning pet hair. However, they do have some flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. For instance, the Q5's navigation system doesn't have AI-powered obstacle avoidance, so it's prone to getting hung up on shoes and socks and can't navigate tightly packed rooms very well in our tests. It also doesn't come with an image sensor that lets it see the corners of a room.

It's still a great deal particularly if your home or office has lots of unfinished floors and you're looking to save some money. It's also quiet and can be used while you're at work or in school. It lacks the edge-to-edge bare floor vacuuming that is offered in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective when it comes to mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes that don't stick well and isn't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does have an auto-emptying dock, however. And, if you have to, you can swap the mopping pad to dry ones in just a few seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming capabilities into a compact, sleek package. Its intelligent cleaning maps as well as nimble navigation make it easy to clean and effective in tackling larger particles, like pet hair. It also features a powerful suction and self-emptying bin. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, although it isn't as efficient as some of its competitors in deep cleaning.

It's a bit more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, but it has superior suction, a built-in dust bin that automatically emptys into its base, and also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can clean the floor even after it vacuums. This is something we haven't seen before on other robotic vacuum/mop combinations.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

The robot vacuum and mop combination features a sleek, circular look that looks more like a regular Roomba model than the boxy models from the competitors. It's one of our most attractive robot vacuums. The newest model from iRobot is its most advanced, with advanced features including Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology as well as future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can wash its own mop pads).

It's the only robotic vacuum/mop that has a perfect 10 in our tests, thanks to a combination of high-tech sensors that include a camera, structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation autonomously. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop mops.

The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is easy to use. It has an intuitive mobile application interface, and it integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only drawback is that it's an eerily noisy device that could be problematic if you run it in the morning prior to work or in the evening as you try to sleep.

It's also a bit expensive, although it's not as pricey as the Ecovacs Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra Both of which are equally powerful and more attractive. This is a two-in-one vacuum that's very capable however, it's more expensive and make more noise.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with many advanced features that will let you get rid of your chores. Like Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that takes care of both vacuuming and mopping, with a multi-function dock that automatically emptys the vacuum's dust bin, fills its water tank, and washes and dry the mop pads.

The smart robot uses LIDAR and structured lighting to map out floor plans and spot obstacles. It is more efficient in its navigation than its premium competitors. It also has a front-mounted camera to detect hazards in real-time, although this wasn't quite reliable in our tests and was sometimes confused by power cords or other obstructions.

The vacuum has a suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to finish the job. It also features "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the intensity at which the vacuum works and also adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of your home according to the degree of dirt they tend to be.

If you own a larger home, you should consider selecting a robot that comes with spot or zone cleaning mode. This lets you tell the robot which area of your home must be cleaned by using the app or voice control. If you have lots of furniture, a stair-mode is also a good option. Also, a recharge and resume feature that allows your robot autonomous vacuum to take over exactly where it left off is great for busy families.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is a smarter cleaner than you would imagine from its price. It has a great vacuuming performance and picked up 55% debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses with one pad, which uses a reciprocating motion, which does a better job cleaning than the other mop cleaners for robots we've tested. It's also self-sufficient, with a full-featured application and an auto-emptying washable base.

The iRobot app is designed to help you navigate a mapping run, which gathers information on your floorplan and any "no go" areas that you've marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules or to create the spot-cleaning. It can also be used to it to prioritize your dirtiest areas for better performance. The app also grants access to a variety of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.

It also has the ability to reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It also has a strong 8,000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs for hair of pets. You can also set up a spot-clean that will thoroughly clean the area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek and less expensive alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras look like cute eyes. It is capable of vacuuming, but it is more susceptible to getting caught on low thresholds and is louder than the other top robotic vacuums we've examined. It also has a less user-friendly app and a small base station that doesn't double as an emptying bin.
