The Q5 Pro and its sibling, the more expensive Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've examined. Similar to other iRobots that are premium (including the most powerful model), they use smart mapping to produce precise floorplans that avoid obstacles such as cords and furniture legs. The robots also have the feature of Carpet Boost that increases its power when it detects dirt on the carpet.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored extremely well in our tests of floors with no carpet, and they are particularly adept in removing dog hair. There are some issues however, which prevent them from being our top option. One of the flaws of the Q5 is its navigation system does not include AI-powered obstacle avoidance. It's thus susceptible to get stuck on socks and shoes and couldn't navigate rooms with lots of people well in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that would let it see the corners of the room.

It's still a great deal for those whose home or office has a lot of unfinished floors and you want to save money. It's also very quiet and can work while you're at work, or going to school. The only thing it lacks that you can't find in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming of floors with no floor. It's also less effective in mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on well and aren't able to take on dried-on debris. The Q5 comes with a self-emptying cradle that can be emptied by itself. If you want to change the mopping pad for dry ones in a matter of just a few seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact sleek and stylish vacuum cleaner that also has the ability to sweep floors. Its smart cleaning maps and fluid navigation make it simple to clean, and effective in dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also features strong suction and an automatic bin for emptying. It's the best robot vacuum for carpets, although it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mop uses sensors that help it stay clear of obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the patterns of your home over time and offer more efficient cleaning. The app lets you customize zones and change the cleaning schedule. Its battery life is average in comparison to other models.

It's a little more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however it offers superior suction, a dustbin on board that automatically fills up its base, and also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after vacuuming it, something we haven't seen in other robot vacuum/mop combos.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

This mop and vacuum combination has a sleek, circular design that appears more like the regular Roomba unit than the boxy models from the competitors. It's among our most attractive robot vacuums. The newest model from iRobot is among the most intelligent, with advanced features including Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can wash its own mop pads).

It's the only robotic vacuum/mop that scored a perfect 10 in our tests thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors, including cameras, a structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can fully autonomously refill and empty its base station and it has an its own self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40 as with other iRobot products, is simple to use. It has an intuitive mobile application interface and is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only real drawback is that it's still quite an eerily noisy device that could be an issue if you use it in the morning prior to work, or at night when you try to fall asleep.

It's also a bit costly, but not as much as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally impressive and attractive. If you're willing to live with a bit more noise and some additional cost this is a powerful two-in-one that will delight most.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with many advanced features that let you get rid of your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning machine, similar to Ecovacs the top of the line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It comes with a multi-function dock that will automatically empty the vacuum's bin and refills the water tank, and washes and drys the mop pads.

The smart robot cleaner with mop uses LIDAR and structured lighting to draw out floor plans and detect obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its top competitors. It also has a front-mounted camera for real-time hazard detection however, it wasn't foolproof in our testing and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its vacuum has a high suction maximum of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to finish the job. It also comes with an option known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the vacuum's power and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home based on how dirty those areas are.

For bigger homes, it's worth opting for a model with spot or zone cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean a particular area of your house by using the app or via voice commands. A stair mode can be useful if you own a lot furniture. For families with busy schedules, a recharge function and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to continue from where it left off can be very useful.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is a cleaner with more intelligence than you might expect from its price tag. It is a great job cleaning, removing 55% of the debris we found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using only one pad and a reciprocating movement that is more efficient than most of the mop cleaners with robots that we've tried. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a fully-featured application, and a self-emptying, washable base.

The well-designed iRobot application guides you through a mapping exercise that collects information about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you have marked on the map. You can use it to make cleaning schedules, set up an area for cleaning or to prioritise your dirtiest rooms to improve performance. The app also grants access to many options, including seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.

It is also able to reach corners and under furniture more easily because its shape is more rectangular. It also has a powerful 8,000 Pascal suction and combs with intelligent technology for hair of pets. You can also create a spot-cleaner which will thoroughly clean a specific area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek and less expensive alternative to iRobot Roomba. It is more appealing in its design, similar to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed like cute little eyes. It is capable of vacuuming, but is more prone to get caught on low thresholds and is a bit more noisy than the other top robotic hoovers vacuums we've examined. It also has an app that's less intuitive and has a tiny base station that can't double as a bin to empty.
