UPVC Replacement Door HandlesThe handles on your doors get worn out over time and need to be replaced. It is crucial to be able to match the dimensions of the old handles when replacing them.
The three measurements to be inspected are the top screw position as well as the key hole and lever sizes. Use the size guide to aid you.
Inline Lever/Lever
A lever or lever door handle is a modern handle that can be installed on doors that are new or replacement. This style of handle is available in many styles and finishes. This handle is available from a number of manufacturers including Avocet ERA Fullex Hoppe Mila Millenco Yale.
Fab and Fix Windsor Inline Sprung Lever Door Handle
The uPVC/Composite handles are made from durable materials, and are ideal for multi-point lock doors that require a robust design. The handles are inline and they utilize the same screws and spindle to fix them. They are easily fitted on any uPVC/Composite door.
The design of the sprung lever allows the handle to be set and angled to ensure a comfortable experience and is suitable for all users. The handle has been endurance tested to 200,000 cycles, which helps to ensure the quality of the finish and performance of the handle over time. The lever that is sprung can be reduced to accommodate more locks. This is particularly beneficial for narrower door frames where the cylinder is further back. A lever that is shorter can be used for doors with latches that can be activated with the thumb on the inside.
Lever Pad
A Lever Pad door handle made of upvc functions differently than lever handles found on most doors. These handle types are either operated by one spindle, or two spindles, either inline or offset. They are typically used on UPVC double glazed doors and come in many variations & styles.
The handles have been tested to the minimum of 200,000 cycles and are available in several finishes including White Silver, Chrome, & Gold. The finish meets BS EN 1670:2007 Grade 5 and is also resistant to corrosion, giving the handle a high degree of durability and performance for the intended use.
All of the UPVC handle lever pad styles are supplied with a spindle and screws, allowing them to be put on an existing or new uPVC door. The 211mm backplate fixing centres permit a bigger handle, which is often a benefit when replacing a damaged or worn multi-point door lock mechanism. The handle levers come with a spring, which solves the problem of door handles that sag out of their horizontal position when not being used.
When selecting a replacement UPVC handle and spindle, it is crucial to match the dimensions of the PZ of the multipoint lock as well as the uPVC door. This measurement is often called the 'handle centre' or 'cylinder centres' and is a critical aspect to match the right handles.
Once you have the proper PZ size, you'll be required to make sure that the handle lever pads and push pads are a suitable shape to fit the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) compatible handles you need for your doors. They are usually of a round or square shape with an internal lever and an external push pad.
The majority of UPVC lever pads that we sell are sprung, meaning that they will return to their horizontal position when not in use, rather than hanging out and possibly sticking in the frame. This helps prevent the draughts and cold air from getting into a house. The majority of UPVC lever pad style
uvpc window handles are available in left and right handed versions, allowing them to be installed on either side of doors.
Euro Cylinder
Cylinder locks are typically used on uPVC doors, but can be utilized on other types of door. The cylinder lock operates by using a key that unlocks the cylinder's case. This exposes pins that can be aligned to those in the lock, allowing them to rotate the camera that rotates, opening the door. Euro cylinders can be equipped with up to six pins with both internal and external doors typically having different levels of security.
Selecting the right cylinder for your needs is crucial; it is dependent on the way your door and handle are utilized. For example,
external door handles and locks doors must be secured with an extra secure cylinder, while internal doors can be secured using the standard cylinder. Certain cylinders are equipped with additional features that can improve security, such as anti-drill or anti-bump properties.
A euro cylinder needs to be measured correctly to ensure it is the correct size for your door. The cylinder must be measured from the screw hole in the center to the ends of the cylinder. This includes the thumb turn, should there be one. If you are unable to measure with the lock in position, you can take it out of it. It is essential to not have a extension of the cylinder beyond the handle or escutcheon. This could make it vulnerable to snapping lock attacks.
Most modern cylinders are made with anti-drill and bump resistance features included in their design. These are designed to reduce the chance of attack by forcing cylinders to rotate in a different direction. This can help prevent attacks and keep your doors safe.
There are also cylinders that are designed to withstand snapping. This is a typical attack on cylinders. A specially designed tool is used to break the break line of the lock, and then the front of the cylinder is snapped off. This is faster and less difficult than gaining access through multipoint locks. It also leaves no evidence of a break-in which can hinder the insurance claim.
Spring Cassette
The spring cassette is situated in the base plate of your door handle. It offers a spring-loaded solution to return your multipoint lock handles to their resting position after use. The handles were previously equipped with no spring and would droop when the locking mechanism was removed. This simple component is the best way to fix this problem. It also helps prevent your door from becoming stuck in either the open or closed position as they are difficult to close manually.
These spring cassettes were designed to be used with a sprung multipoint lock. They are not compatible with handles that aren't sprung, and you will have to cut a hole in your backplate for them to fit. (Please check the image for a more detailed diagram). They are a replacement for damaged or missing cassettes inside the backplate of the door handle for various kinds of uPVC doors. They have a square cut out which can accommodate an 8mm spindle, and are sold as a set.
These spring cassettes provide a great value solution to the issue of door handles that have become sagging. They are easy to fit and will prolong the lifespan of your uPVC doors. For more information on our selection of
