WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader
Upgrades will give you a boosts in certain stats. Each upgrade increases the item level by +3. A random additional substat is also increased with every upgrade.
The upgraded gear typically has a higher trade value regardless of whether it has low requirements (like the FB sorc's shield) or has a high stat variation (like Eth titan weapons). The latter see less value from upgrading due to the necessity to roll for a perfect version.
Recycle Points
The item upgrader lets players upgrade their gear by giving the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of armor or weapon. The item used to upgrade the item is discarded and cannot be used again. Upgrades can also be used to create enhancements.
The upgrader can be found in all major cities, and can be visited at any time to upgrade your equipment. It is recommended that you visit the upgrader once every few weeks to keep your equipment up-to-date.
Upgrades will cost more, based on the item level, but they will always be cheaper than buying new gear. Upgrades such as upgrading a Benthic chest to 385 ilvl will cost you 20 recycle points. If you purchase a similar Item Level Upgrade -

Valorstones
Upgrades are items that can be used to improve the quality of weapons tools, armor, and other items. They are purchased by players through NPCs that sell upgrades to items in exchange for various currencies, and can also be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be used on any tool, weapon, or armor. The button will show the item's next level of upgrade, in the event that there are enough materials.
Upgrade costs differ based on the item slot, and the current level of the item. For instance, weapons will cost more than gloves, bracers, or bracers. Each step costs 15 Flightstones plus a set number of crests. Certain upgrades provide discounts on Flightstones. Once an item is upgraded to a certain level it can be re-downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower cost.
A lot of locations offer upgraders for items in addition to the main island and a few outposts. The NPCs offer an upgrade coupon and the possibility of getting an entirely new recipe. The discount for upgrading increases when more items are upgraded. It can also be increased by having players finish certain achievements or quests.
Icewind Dale does not have an item upgrader at the start unlike Cromwell from Baldur's gate II. The NPCs who can facilitate upgrades are only available via a variety of ways. This is both a benefit as well as a drawback.
In Season 3, a number of new features were added to the upgrade system. Once a player obtains an upgrade to a certain level of an item for a specific armor slot, upgrading further items to that same item level will be less expensive, even when they are part of an entirely different set of gear.
The amount of Valorstones needed to upgrade is reduced and the discount is affixed to all accounts. Similarly, the amount of Harbinger Crests needed for upgrades is also reduced and is not available until players reach certain achievement milestones.
Crests
When it comes to upgrading equipment in WoW, players have a few options. Flightstones are an item that is available to everyone for upgrading. Crests are more specialized, and are used during specific item level upgrades. Crests are an important component of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System that was introduced in version 10.1. They come in four ranks.
First, you must be aware that the crests can only be purchased for equipment with a certain rank. Each rank comes with a different
upgrade items path. The most basic and straightforward upgrade route costs 15 crests while the most complicated requires as many as 20 crests based on the kind of gear being upgraded.
Players can earn crests through completing content of the appropriate level, whether that involves walking around and engaging in outdoor activities for gear of lower tiers, raids or dungeons of all difficulties for higher-tier items or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses or dungeons for endgame gear. These crests can be exchanged with an upgrader for the item such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn, in Valdrakken to upgrade the item in the proper steps and paths.
Utilizing these new currencies isn't too difficult, but the system introduces some changes to the overall upgrade process. Once a piece of gear attains the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer) it no longer requires Flightstones. This change is designed to allow players to get their equipment up to the highest level possible on all their characters, instead of relying on seasonal loot.
Another significant change is that crests have one usage, so it's important to use them wisely. For instance it's
Best item upgrader to use all of your Whelpling-rank crests on the
Best item upgrade equipment available, and then keep Drake and Wyrm crests for the next batch of upgrades you're planning on making. This is particularly applicable to items like trinkets and rings that take up multiple slots. The discount for the entire account will only be applicable if all the slots on the character are filled with top-quality equipment.
