Item upgrades provide players with the ability to upgrade their equipment that they already have. This can be done at any item upgrader NPC.

Upgrades boost the stats of an item, and can also add additional features based on the type of item. Examples include Whistan's shield for FB sorcs, or Goldwrap for caster builds.

Armour

Link's armor is a key factor in keeping him safe from danger. While it can't be upgraded like weapons, it can still be improved in a variety of ways to improve its defence capabilities.

Armour is designed to protect animals and people from harm or injury, whether it's from a direct physical attack or a variety of hazards posed by the environment or activities. Historically, most armour was made of fabric or leather, but metal protections were also employed in military applications, particularly like heavy cavalry or combat drones.

Like weapons there are a variety of ways that armor can be upgraded but most will require visiting one of the four Great Fairy Fountains located throughout Hyrule. Each fountain has a unique degree of upgrades available, with more granting greater levels of protection, and requiring a higher cost in rupees and materials to unlock.

First, Armor Upgrades are permanent upgrades. Once they've been installed they aren't able to be removed until you own a different piece of equipment that has the same upgrade. You should only apply the highest-level upgrades to your equipment and ensure that you have the equipment required to complete them.

When it comes to acquiring the required upgrade components to upgrade your character, they are available all over Hyrule, including shrines, shops and even enemies. These will generally be marked with the gold circle or blue triangle, and will be available in large numbers as you advance through the game. They could appear randomly, but there is a possibility that getting certain upgrades can trigger a quest that will reward you with more.

It's important to keep in mind that even though the amount provided by each upgrade may differ, it will always be higher than nothing. This is because a full set of upgraded armor will grant you a high defense boost that protects you from all kinds of attacks, excluding magic and makes it a formidable weapon for any class.

Weapons

You can upgrade your guns by using special upgrades that make them truly unique. They can boost damage, change the weapon's stats in order to adapt to your build, and even unlock new attachments like unique ammo types, enchantments and other options for aesthetics.

You'll need both the upgrade component as well as the weapon itself to upgrade items it. The weapon should be at a minimum of a certain level to upgrade it. Most weapons only be upgraded by one upgrade.

Weapon upgrade components can be found scattered throughout the world, from enemies or from merchants. The upgrade components themselves are a combination of ingredients that can be put into weapons, armor, trinkets, and gathering tools to grant an attribute bonus or additional impact while they're being used. They require that the equipment be of a certain level to allow the upgrade items. They can be upgraded in the same manner as other items.

The upgrades themselves are a combination of Smithing Stones and Runes, and are used for enhancing the stats of a base weapon and enhancing its scale with other stats. These upgrades are available from enemies in the open world, or from merchants. They can also be obtained through combat.

There are two NPCs who can upgrade your weapons: Blacksmith Hewg in the Roundtable Hold hub area and the Smithing Master Iji in the Road to the Manor hub area. Both of these NPCs accept your Smithing Stones or Runes to upgrade your weapon.

It's important to prioritize upgrading your Best item upgrade-in-slot items first, and then items that you won't need to replace in the near future. If you're playing in a melee-based build, for example, upgrade your weapon first, then your chest and shoulders, then your feet and hands. Similar principles apply to Magic and Utility Items, with the caveat that certain items may be better than others, based on your style of play. Armour is not any different, with some Reforges being better than others.

Magic Items

A character can only upgrade one item of magic. If an upgrade project has been cancelled, no more upgrades will be made for the item. Upgraded magic items cost twice as much gold to create or purchase, however they may offer other benefits.

A magical item is an item that has special properties or effects. Most of these items are weapons, but there are some that include armor, shields, cloaks, potions, scrolls, rings, and other items. Some of these items may be made sentient.

Most magic items can be enhanced in their abilities. This can make them more useful to players, or could help them conquer an especially difficult challenge. A weapon infused with a special substance might offer, for instance, an extra level of damage to a particular kind of enemy. This is particularly beneficial for characters that have reached a stage at which they'll likely encounter the same type of monster repeatedly in dungeons.

A ring infused by magic could give immunity to non-magical attacks that bludgeon or pierce or slash (excluding silver-based attacks) until the character gets another long rest. This is particularly beneficial for combatants who are melee or any person who wishes to stay clear of buying an armor.

Certain items enchanted by magic have special powers that allow the character to cast spells in addition to those on the list of spells for their class. This is useful for those who are having trouble filling their spell slots because of multiclassing. These items with enchanted abilities generally require an Intelligence (Arcana) check to use them, and the spell cast is determined by rolling on a table that is based on the number Intelligence points used.

Other objects with enchanted powers could permit the character's appearance to change, or they could even create a new appearance. These are particularly beneficial for those who have to leave their homes, or who are in a location where they might not be welcome. A magical item could grant them invisibility or make them invisible for everyone, except for the chosen person.

Utility Items

Utility items are those that do not fit into the categories of Armor, Clothing or Weapons and have a range of different capabilities. Contrary to Weapons and Armor, no one utility item can conflict with another. The majority of utility items have a passive effect which the player can activate when using them. Some have additional abilities that are activated by pressing a button or activating an ability.

Generally speaking, the most popular kind of utility item is the Flashlight that illuminates the surrounding area. Other utilities include the Helicopter Hat and Rocket Boots, which allow the player to be floating in the air while they move, and the Jetpack which allows the player to accelerate in any direction while on the ground. A variety of useful items can be immediately produced in the Engineering section while others can be unlocked through research projects or projects at the Proving Ground.

Players can gain more powerful utility items in addition to those that are available in their normal inventory by purchasing them at the Atomic Shop or from seasonal Scoreboard rewards. Certain of these items can be upgraded to make them more effective.

Most utility items increase an individual combat ability or give the player a kind of advantage when it comes to navigation. Sharpening stones, created by the Weaponsmith, increase Power and Ferocity. Maintenance Oils, made by the Huntsman can increase concentration and healing power. Other items of utility like Writs and Theses created by the Scribe, can be utilized to give the player either a boost in Damage or Condition Damage.

All XCOM soldiers can equip a useful item at the beginning of the campaign. Eventually, an additional slot can be obtained by acquiring certain types of armor or by completing engineering, research or experiments in the Proving Ground. During the Alien Hunters DLC, additional slots are made available by equipping the Grenade Launcher, which allows players to equip an Smoke Grenade or Bomb in another grenade slot. an offensive grenade is placed in the main grenade slot.
