Upgrades boost the value of certain numeric stats on armor, weapons and rings. Upgrades can also boost bonuses like Crit chance and PvE Damage.

If the template for upgrading a weapon is %, it will increase 3percent of its previous damage every time it is upgraded.

The cost of upgrading an item is determined by the item upgrading's level. The cost increases as the item level rises.

Components

Upgrade components can be incorporated into trinkets, weapons and armor in order to give them a boost in stats or an extra effect. These can be obtained through crafting, buying from vendors trading, or looting. Some upgrades also have special cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components can only be used on equipment with a slot. The item must be upgraded to blue level before a component can be used. Upgrade components, unlike other modifications, can only be applied once. They cannot be replaced or applied several times. Infusions and Enrichments are type of upgrade component that is used to upgrade non-amulet legendary or ascending equipment, as in some items that aren't ascended. Infusions and enrichments are recovered by salvaging gear from the ascended, or completing an elite mission in the Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall campaigns.

An upgrade can have a prefix or suffix, modifying the name of the equipment with which it is used (for examplefor example "Canthan Armor Insignia is changed to Canthan Armor of Minor Vigor). Certain upgrades boost an item's Mark Level or Rarity, allowing players to create stronger versions of the equipment with the smallest amount of Upgrade Crystals than is required to achieve the same level of upgrade through normal methods.

A boost upgrade is a way to alter the attack or defense characteristics of a weapon or armor. These upgrades can be crafted from the Portative Forging Station once the player completes the cutscene and defeats the Crazed Mechanical. These upgrades can be purchased by purchasing them in the cash shop or obtaining them from enemies when upgrading other gear.

Each upgrade increases the chance that a better-quality version of the item will be dropped during the next reset. This gives players a reason to upgrade items their equipment even when they're not sure how much it will be improved following the reset.

The process of upgrading an item can be costly, and it is possible that the item upgrade will be obsolete or even break in the event that the upgrade fails. Upgrade Crystals and assist powder are also destroyed when an upgrade fails. Cash shop items can be used to reduce or eliminate the possibility of failure. Certain upgrades also provide a bonus if reinserted.

Glyphs

Glyphs can be used to upgrade the Paragon Board by placing them in sockets that are specifically designed for. Glyphs boost the effectiveness of all nodes in a radius around them and include pre-existing affixes to equipment. Glyphs can be upgraded in a variety of ways. Glyphs, which is the only upgrade component which can be removed without restriction and replaced with no restrictions, are the most common. Only legendary equipment can be salvaged and rebuilt using the help of a Black Lion Salvage Kit.

Each Glyph has a particular range of values that can enhance a stat by, and the value is displayed when you choose the Glyph in your inventory. You can replace it with a Glyph that is of the same or higher rank to increase the value of the Glyph.

There are Glyphs in the Black Lion Trading Post, as part of the Gem Store purchase or bundle with certain unlimited-use gathering tools and also through Faction Crypt raids. Leveling

The upgrade system for items allows players to improve the effectiveness of specific items by putting upgraded components into them. This is also known as "upping". Every upgradeable item is assigned a level that determines the final statistics. Upgraded items can be upgraded up to a maximum of 385 ilvl. Each level of an item requires various components, and the cost of upgrading increase with each level.

Some upgrades require an ingredient to be activated. This ingredient is obtained by completing Upgrade Recipes. These recipes can be purchased from NPCs or found on the upgrade tab in a crafting table. Each Upgrade Recipe that is completed results in a certain amount of Technology points. These points can be used to level up the item. Once enough points have been earned, the upgrade will be claimed and its additional bonuses will be added to the item.

When an item is upgraded by a player to a higher level, the original item is replaced with a new item of the same type. This means that the same piece of armor will be transformed into a weapon or shield when upgraded. The new item also comes with its own set bonus. This can be a disadvantage, as it can cause the item to become more expensive, even if you don't need it.

All items can be upgraded up to five times, with the exception for hero gear, which can be upgraded eight times. Each time you upgrade a piece of equipment, it has a chance of failing. The failure rate increases as you go over the maximum number. Failures can cause the item to revert to its initial state, which will force the user to spend more money on materials than they would have to had they stopped upgrading at the highest number of upgrades.

If an item isn't upgraded the experience bar on the bar for growth will be reset to zero. The item also loses any bonuses it has gained, such as the chance to crit attack damage, other effects (such as an increase in healing over time, or reloading speed). However, the player can continue to use the weapon or armor after the failure.

When an item is upgraded, the upgrades are applied from lowest to the highest. This means that when a weapon is upgraded, if it gains a crit chance increase that it will be applied prior to any damage from attacks increases. A new attribute called Slots has been added to the item's definition and the value is recomputed every time an upgrade is applied.

The amount of resources required to upgrade an item is determined on the rarity rating as well as the number of upgrade slots.
