WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades provide a guaranteed boost to certain stats. Each upgrade boosts the level of an item by 3. Each upgrade also boosts an unspecified substat.

Upgraded gear generally sees higher trade value as long as it meets low requirements (like the FB sorc's shield) or a very high stat variance (like the eth titan weapons). Upgrades are less important for the latter due to the need to roll an exact version.

Recycle Points

The item level upgrade - Google's website - upgrader lets players upgrade item their gear by giving the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of weapon or armor. However, the item that is used to upgrade will remain in use for a long time and can't be used again. Upgrades can be used to create the enchantments.

The upgrader can be found in all major cities, and can be visited anytime to upgrade your gear. To keep your gear up-to-date, it is recommended that you visit the upgrader every few weeks.

The cost of upgrades will be based on the current level of the gear being upgraded but they will always be cheaper than purchasing new equipment from other sources. For instance, upgrading a chest piece from Benthic to ilvl 385 will cost 20 recycle points purchasing a similar piece from a different player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to purchase weapon, armor, tool, and accessory upgrades. They can be purchased by players through NPCs that sell upgrades to items in exchange for various currencies, and may also be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be applied to any weapon, tool, or armor. button, which will display a preview of the item at the next upgrade level if the player has sufficient materials.

The cost of upgrading varies based on the item slot, and the current level of the item. For instance weapons cost more than bracers, or gloves. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones plus a specific number of crests. Some upgrades give a discount on the Flightstones. After an item has been upgraded to a certain degree it is able to be downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower price.

Item upgraders can be found in a variety of locations on the main island as well as some outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade coupon as well as the possibility of obtaining a new recipe. The discount for upgrades increases with the number of items being upgraded. It can also be increased by requiring players to complete specific achievements or complete quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an item upgrader at the beginning, unlike Cromwell from Baldur's Gate II. Instead the NPCs that are available to help with upgrades are acquired via various methods which is both an improvement but also a drawback.

Once a piece of gear attains the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer), it no longer requires Flightstones. This allows players to upgrade their equipment to the highest possible ilvl on all of their characters, instead of relying on seasonal loot.

Another important change is that crests only have one usage and it's crucial to use them properly. It is best to put your Whelpling-rank Crests on the Best item upgrader gear you can find and keep Drake and Wyrm Crests for the next set of upgrades. This is especially true for items like rings and trinkets that fill multiple slots on the character which will only be able to avail the account-wide discount when all of the slots are filled with high-quality equipment.
