WoW Upgrades - The
item upgrader mod Upgrader
Upgrades can give you boost in certain stats. Each upgrade increases item level by +3. Each upgrade also increases a random substat.
The upgraded gear is usually more valuable, unless it has a low requirement by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a large variance in stats (like Eth Titan weapons). Upgrades aren't as valuable for those with lower requirements due to the requirement to roll an exact version.
Recycle Points
The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear to a higher item level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of armor or weapon. However, the item that is used to upgrade will be consumed for the duration of time and can't be used again. Upgrades can be applied to the enchantments.
The upgrader can be found in all major cities, and is accessible at any time to upgrade your equipment. To ensure that your equipment is up-to-date, it is recommended that you visit the upgrader each few weeks.
Upgrades will cost more depending on the item level, but they will always be less expensive than purchasing new gear. For example upgrading a chest piece from Benthic to ilvl 385 will cost 20 recycle points, purchasing a similar piece from another player will cost 105.
Valorstones
Upgrades are items that can be used to upgrade weapons, armor, tools, and accessory upgrades. They are purchased by players from NPCs who sell upgrades for items in exchange for various currencies, and can be found in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade has been purchased, it can be applied to any weapon or tool using a button, which will show a preview of the
item upgrader mod at its next upgrade level in the event that the player has enough materials.
The upgrade cost depends on the slot of the item and the current level of the
Item Level Upgrade and the weapon's price is higher than gloves or bracers for instance. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones plus a certain number of crests. Some upgrades give a discount on the Flightstones. Once an
item upgrader mod has been upgraded to a certain amount, it can be degraded and sold back to the upgrader for a lesser amount of the two currencies.
A lot of locations offer upgraders for items which include the main island and some outposts. The NPCs provide an upgrade discount and the chance to obtain a new upgrade recipe. The discount on upgrades increases with the number of items that are being upgraded. It is also possible to be increased by requiring players to complete specific achievements or complete quests.
Icewind Dale does not have an upgrader for items at the beginning unlike Cromwell from Baldur's Gate II. The NPCs who are able to facilitate upgrades are only accessible via a variety of ways. This is both a positive and a drawback.
In Season 3, the upgrade system was tweaked a bit, with some new features added. Once an upgrade has been completed to a certain level of item for an armor slot, upgrading other items to the same level, will cost less. This applies even if those items come from an entirely different set of equipment.
The amount of Valorstones required to upgrade is reduced and the discount is affixed to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests needed to upgrade is cut too, but it is only available after certain milestones are achieved.
Crests
When it comes to upgrading gear in WoW players have a variety of options. Flightstones are a currency that is available to everyone for upgrading. Crests are more special, and are used during specific item level upgrades. Crests are an essential part of the Dragonflight gear progression system introduced in 10.1 and are available in 4 ranks.
The first thing to remember is that Crests are only available to equipment of a certain rank. Each rank has distinct upgrade paths. The easiest and most straightforward upgrade is 15 crests. The most complicated upgrade can require up to 20 crests, based on the type or equipment being upgraded.
Players can earn crests by working through content at the appropriate level. This could be by doing outdoor activities or taking on dungeons and raids of all difficulty levels to obtain lower-tier gear or Mythic+ raid bosses or dungeons with a heroic difficulty for gear in the endgame. These crests can then be exchanged at an item upgrader NPC, such as Cuzolth in Dornogal, or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to obtain the appropriate upgrade pathways and steps.
The use of these currencies isn't that difficult however, the system does introduce some modifications to the upgrade process. For instance, once an item is at the highest level of upgrading for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it will no longer require Flightstones to be upgraded. This change is intended to allow players to get their equipment to the highest possible ilvl on all their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.
Another notable modification is that crests have one use, so it's important to make use of them in a responsible manner. It's
Best item upgrader to put your Whelpling-rank Crests on the top-quality equipment you can find, and keep Drake and Wyrm Crests for the next round of upgrades. This is particularly relevant for rings and trinkets that fill multiple slots on the character, that will be able to benefit from the discount for all accounts when all slots are full of high-quality gear.
