World of Warcraft Upgrades and Item Upgrading

Upgrades can boost the value of certain numeric stats on armor, weapons and rings. Upgrades also increase bonuses such as Crit chance and damage from PvE.

For instance a weapon that has the upgrade template that ends in % will suffer 3% attack damage every time it upgrades (relative to its previous value).

The cost of upgrading an item is determined by the item's level. The cost increases as the item's level rises.

Components

Upgrade components can be added to trinkets, armor, and weapons to give them a stat boost or an extra effect. They can be obtained through crafting, buying from vendors or trading with other players or looting. Some upgrades have special cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components can be inserted into equipment with a slot for them; the item must be at a minimum upgraded to blue level for a component to be used. In contrast to other mods components can only be used once and can't be used multiple times or replaced with upgrades. Infusions and enrichments are a particular kind of upgrade component used for non-amulet ascended and legendary equipment as well as the items that are not ascending back. Enrichments and Infusions can be obtained by salvaging equipment from the ascended state or completing a quest in the Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall campaigns.

An upgrade can have a prefix or suffix that alters the name of the item to which it is used (for examplefor example 'Canthan Armor Insignia is changed to Canthan Armor of Minor Vigor). Some upgrades boost the Mark Level or Rarity, which allows players to create stronger versions of that equipment that require fewer Upgrade Crystals than would be required to achieve the same level of upgrade through normal methods.

A boost upgrade is a way to alter the defense or attack properties of a weapon, or armor. After the player has completed the cutscene and defeated Crazed Mechanist These upgrades can be created at the Portative Forging Station. These upgrades are available for purchase them from the cash shop, or by obtaining them from enemies when upgrading other equipment.

The player can have the maximum of five boost upgrades at a time; each upgrade increases the chance that a higher-tier version of the item will be available at the time of the next reset. This gives the player some incentive to keep improving their equipment, even if they're unsure of how much it will increase after a future reset.

The boost upgrade may be successful or not, the process may be costly and there is a significant chance that the item could become obsolete or even break when it fails. A unsuccessful upgrade could cause the destruction of Upgrade Crystals and Assist Powder, as well as the upgraded item. This is alleviated by the availability cash shop items that double or even eliminate the chances of failure, and some upgrades that offer a bonus when reinserted into an item.

Glyphs

Item upgrades can sometimes be rerolled if the player has enough reroll tokens to be able to do so. This can be beneficial, but shouldn't be done often as it can waste resources.

Certain upgrades can increase their value, allowing players to customize their equipment. Each item can be upgraded a maximum of five times, except for hero gear that can be upgraded up to eight times. Every time you upgrade a piece of equipment, it is at risk of failing. The rate of failure increases when you exceed the maximum number. Failures can cause the item to go to its original condition, which requires the user to pay more for materials than they would had they stopped upgrading at the maximum amount of upgrades.

If an item fails to upgrade, the amount of accumulated experience in its growth bar is reset to zero. In addition, the item will lose any bonus it earned such as crit chance and attack damage, as well as any additional effects associated with the effect (for instance, a higher healing over time or speed of reload). The player can continue to use their weapon or armor even after the failure.

When an item is upgraded the upgrades are applied from the lowest to highest.
