Types of UPVC Door Handles
It is essential to select the correct replacement handle made of upvc for your home when your handles made of upvc require replacement. A locksmith can offer and install high-security uPVC door handles that come with additional security features.
The most important measurements to consider are the measurement A (also known as PZ) along with the length of the backplate. Check these measurements to ensure your new uPVC handle will fit.
Lever/Lever
A lever is a rigid bar pivoted around a point (known as a fulcrum). When you apply a force at the end of the lever, it tends to rotate the fulcrum in the direction of the force applied. This rotation multiplies your force and lets you lift or move objects that would otherwise require more force to lift.
The distance between the fulcrum of the lever and the point where you apply force determines the maximum amount of movement. This is known as the mechanical advantage. The more the lever is extended, the larger the mechanical advantage. You can calculate mechanical advantage by dividing distance from fulcrum point to the point you are applying force by the distance between the fulcrum point and end of the lever.
Levers can have a variety of effects based on how the force is applied. For instance the class 2 lever is inclined to turn in the opposite direction to when the force applied to it (like a T-totter). The forces generated when you push on the handle of a front door will create rotational effects similar to those.
However, levers don't create energy. They simply increase the force you apply by changing a small amount of effort across a large distance into a greater amount of force that is applied over a smaller distance. Levers are used to lift heavy objects and transport large quantities of cargo. The principle of the lever is also used in everyday tools like crowbars. Hammer claws fishing rods, hammer claws and even your own legs, as you stand on the hand brake of your car.
Lever/Pad
Lever pad handles, also referred to as upvc door handles, feature levers on both sides to operate the multipoint locks. Lever pad handles are available in a variety of finishes & variations and can be installed on a wide range of materials, including UPVC doors,
aluminium door handle doors & Timber Doors. They are sold in pairs for the outside and the interior doors, with spindles and screws included. They are also available in handed and unhanded versions for different types of users.
They are typically used for new builds and can be installed to replace doors made of upvc. They are usually operated by lifting the levers to throw out all of the multipoint locks, and turning the key to close and unlock. They provide a bit more security than the standard lever handles for doors, as the locking is only done from the inside using keys.
They are not as secure as a cylinder bolt, but are a cost-effective option to provide extra home security. The only disadvantage is that they don't provide the same level protection as a cylinder lock, and they don't restrict access to the home if the door is left open.

Lever/Snib
Lever latches, which are the simplest of door handles are used. The lever is pulled down to open a latch inside the door. It can be locked with a key. Certain lever privacy handles operate on the same principle however with an additional snib, which is similar to the doorknob.
A snib can be very useful tool, especially in homes where privacy and security are essential. You can use the snib handle to block your guest from entering until they are prepared. This kind of handle is also popular in doors that are inside, such as bedrooms, where you might want to restrict access from the outside.
In some instances there are instances where snib buttons could cause problems, particularly when you have older locks and doors that are warped. If the snib is used in error, or by a person who isn't used to it, the door could slam shut and lock you out. You can usually get in by knocking the door frame or the letterbox. However this isn't the best option.
If your uPVC door is equipped with a snib-button it is recommended to replace the handle with a modern E-LOK 7-Series smart lock. These locks can be retrofitted on pull handle kits with double turns and come with cover plates to conceal existing holes, to ensure a seamless installation. The E-LOK application can be used to unlock doors with RFID cards or mechanical keys. Passcodes are also offered to ensure security and convenience. The system is tested to 200,000 cycles to ensure long-term durability. The handles are made of solid metal and meet BS EN 1670 Grade 5 for corrosion resistance.
