Upgrades will give you a boosts in specific stats. Each upgrade increases the item level by +3. A random additional substat is also increased with each upgrade.

Upgrades are items that are used to upgrade weapons and tools, armor and other accessories. They can be purchased from NPCs of item upgraders for various currencies. They can also find them on random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade items is able to be applied to any weapon, tool, or armor. The button will display the item's next upgrade level if there are enough materials.

The upgrade cost depends on the item slot and current item level and the weapon's price is higher than bracers or gloves, for example. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones plus a certain number of crests. Some upgrades give a discount on the Flightstones. After an item has been upgraded to a certain amount it is able to be degraded and sold back to the upgrader for a lesser amount of the two currencies.

Item upgraders can be found in a variety of locations on the main island as well as some outposts. The NPCs offer an upgrade coupon as well as the chance to obtain a new recipe.
