As time passes, the handles on your doors will wear out and need to be changed. When doing this it is important that the new handles match the dimensions of the old handle.

The three measurements to be inspected are the top screw's location, lever and key hole sizes. Use the size guide to aid you.

Inline Lever/Lever

A lever/lever handle is a contemporary door handle that is designed to fit new or replacement handles for upvc windows doors. This type of door handle is available in a wide range of styles and finishes. This handle is offered by several manufacturers, including Avocet ERA Fullex Hoppe Mila Millenco Yale.

Fab and Fix Windsor Inline Sprung Lever Door Handle

The uPVC/Composite handles are made from durable materials, and are perfect for multi-point lock doors that require a robust design. The handles are inline and operate off the same spindle and screw fixings so they are easily installed on doors made of uPVC/Composite, either new or old.

The design of the sprung lever allows the handle to be positioned and angled to provide a comfortable grip and is suitable for all users. The handle has been tested to 200,000 cycles. This ensures that the finish is of high quality and performance over time. The sprung lever is adjustable to accommodate a wide range of locks. This is particularly useful for doors with narrower frames, in which the cylinder is further back. A lever that is shorter can be used on doors with a latch that can be activated with the thumb on the inside.

Lever Pad

A Lever Pad upvc door handle operates differently from lever-type handles on doors. These handles can work off one single spindle (inline) or independently from both sides using two offset or inline spindles (pad). They are typically used on UPVC double glazed window handles glazed doors. They come in a variety of styles and finishes.

The handles have been tested to at least 200 000 cycles and are available in various finishes, including White and Silver, as well as Chrome & Gold. The finish meets BS EN 1670:2007 Grade 5 and is also resistant to corrosion, thereby giving the handle a high degree of durability and performance for the intended use.

All of the upvc sliding door handle lever pad designs come with screws and a spindle which allow them to be put on any new or existing uPVC door. The backplate fixation centres of 211mm allow for a wider handle, which is typically a benefit when replacing a damaged or old multi-point door lock mechanism. These levers for handles are also spring-loaded, which solves the issue of door handles sagging out of their horizontal position when they are not being used.

When selecting the replacement UPVC handle and spindle, it is crucial to match the PZ dimensions of both the multipoint lock and the uPVC door. This measurement is often called the 'handle centre' or 'cylinder centres' and is a critical aspect of matching up the appropriate handles.

Once you have the proper PZ size you will then be required to make sure that the lever pads and push pads are in a suitable shape to fit the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant handles that you require for your bi-fold doors handle. They typically have a square or round shape, with an internal lever and external push pad.

The majority of the UPVC Lever Pads that we sell are spring-loaded. This means they will return to a horizontal position when not being used instead of hanging and possibly sticking in the frame. This stops draughts and cold air from entering a property. The majority of UPVC lever pad style handles come in both left and right handed models that allow them to be put on either side of the doors.

Euro Cylinder

Cylinder locks are usually used on uPVC doors, but they can be utilized on other types of doors. The cylinder lock operates by using a key that unlocks the cylinder's case. This reveals pins that can be aligned to those in the lock and allow them to rotate the revolving camera, opening the door. Euro cylinders can be fitted with up to six pins. Internal and external doors require different levels of security.

The choice of cylinder is vital. It's dependent on the type of use your doors and handles receive. Doors that are external, for instance should be equipped with cylinders with greater security and doors inside can be secured using the standard cylinder. Certain cylinders come with extra features that increase security, for instance, anti-drill or anti-bump properties.

To ensure that the euro cylinder is the right size for your door, it must be measured accurately. The cylinder should be measured from the hole for fixing screws in the middle to the end of the cylinder including the thumb turn if you have one. It is best to do this while the lock is in place however, in the event that this is not possible, you can take it off to measure. It is crucial to not have a cylindrical lock that extends beyond the handle or escutcheon. This can make it vulnerable to snapping lock attacks.

Most modern cylinders are made with bump and anti-drill features included in their design. They are designed to decrease the chances of an attack by forcing the cylinder rotate in a different direction. This helps stop the attack and protect your doors.

There are also cylinders that are constructed to withstand snapping. This is an increasingly common type of attack on cylinders, where the break line inside the lock is smashed using a special tool to snap off the front of the cylinder to allow the door to open. This is a much faster and easier way to gain access than a multipoint locking system. It also leaves less evidence of the burglary which could delay insurance claims.

Spring Cassette

The spring cassette is positioned in the base of the door handle backplate, supplying a spring-loaded solution to return your multipoint lock handles to their rest position after using. The handles were previously equipped with no spring and would droop when the locking mechanism was removed. Adding this simple component is one of the most effective ways to fix this and it is also an excellent way to stop your upvc doors from getting stuck in the open or closed position, as these are not always easy to manually close by hand.

These spring cassettes are specially designed for use with multipoint locks that are sprung They will not work with non-sprung multipoint handles. You will require a bespoke hole cut into your backplate in order for them to fit (please check the image for a technical diagram). They are a replacement for existing broken or missing cassettes within the backplate of the door handle for various kinds of uPVC doors. They are sold as a single unit. They come with a square cut out that is able to accommodate an 8mm shaft.
