The backplate fixing centres of 211mm permit a bigger handle, which can be beneficial when replacing a faulty or worn multi point door lock mechanism. These handle levers are also spring-loaded, which solves the issue of handles that slide out of the horizontal position when they are not in use.
When choosing the replacement
replace upvc window handle handle and spindle it is important to match the dimensions of the PZ of both the multipoint lock and the uPVC door. This measurement is often called the "handle centre" or "cylinder centres and is an essential aspect in ensuring that you have the right handles.
When you have the right PZ size, you'll be required to make sure that the handle lever pads and push pads are a suitable shape for the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant handles that you require for your doors. They are typically round or square, with an internal lever, and an external push pad.
The majority of UPVC Lever Pads we sell are spring-loaded. This means that they can be reverted to a horizontal position when they are not in use instead of hanging and possibly sticking in the frame. This prevents draughts from entering the building. You will also find that the majority of the UPVC lever pad handles are hand-operated which allows you to place them on either side of the door.
Euro Cylinder
Cylinder locks can be found on uPVC and other kinds of doors. They work with a key to unlock a cylinder that will reveal pins that can be aligned with the pins inside the lock body, allow them to rotate a revolving cam, thus opening the door. Euro cylinders can be fitted with up to six pins, with both internal and external doors usually having different levels of security.
The selection of a cylinder is essential. It depends on the amount of use your doors and handles will receive. External doors, for instance are required to be fitted with cylinders with greater security and doors inside can be secured with a standard cylinder. Additionally, certain cylinders are available with extra features that increase security further, such as anti-drill or anti-bump properties.
To ensure that the euro cylinder is of the right size for your door, it should be measured correctly. The cylinder needs to be measured from the screw hole at the center to the ends of the cylinder. This includes the thumb turn should there be one. If you are unable to measure using the lock in its position, you can take it out of it. A cylinder that is protruding beyond the handle and escutcheon might be vulnerable to attacks, such as snapping locks, so it is essential that it's not too long.
Most modern cylinders are designed with anti-drill and bump resistance features included in their design. They are designed to decrease attacks by forcing cylinders to turn in a new direction. This will help to deflect an attack and protect your door.
There are also cylinders that have been designed to withstand snapping. This is an increasingly common type of attack on cylinders, where the break line inside the lock is targeted with a special tool to break off the front of the cylinder to allow the door to open. This is a lot faster and easier to achieve than opening the door with multipoint locks. It also leaves no evidence of a break-in, which can hinder an insurance claim.
