Types of UPVC Door Handles
If your upvc door handle needs replacing it's essential to find the right replacement for your home. Locksmiths can supply and install high-security uPVC door handles that come with additional security features.
The most important measurements are measurement A (known as PZ) and the length of the backplate (measurement F). Make sure to check these measurements to ensure your new uPVC handle will fit.
Lever/Lever
A lever is a solid bar pivoted around a point (known as a the fulcrum). When you apply a force at the end of the lever, it will tend to rotate the fulcrum in the direction of the force. This motion increases the force and lets you lift or move objects that would normally require more force to lift.
The distance between the fulcrum of the lever and the point at which you apply force determines the maximum amount of movement. This is known as the mechanical advantage. The more the lever is extended the greater the mechanical benefit. You can calculate the advantage of mechanical by dividing the distance from fulcrum point to the place where you are applying force by the distance between fulcrum point and the end of lever.
Levers can also have a variety of effects based on the way in which forces are applied. For instance a lever of class 2 tends to rotate in the opposite direction as the effort force is applied (like a totter-totter). The forces produced by pushing the handle of a front door will create rotational effects similar to these.
However, levers don't create energy. Levers multiply the force by converting small amounts of effort applied over a lengthy distance into larger amounts of force applied over smaller distances. Levers are used to lift heavy objects and move huge amounts of cargo. The lever principle is utilized in everyday tools like crowbars. Hammer claws, fishing rods and your own legs when you stand on the hand brake of your vehicle.
Lever/Pad
Lever pad handles, also referred to as upvc door handles, feature levers on both sides to operate the multipoint locks. Lever pad handles are available in a variety of finishes & variations and can be used on a wide range of materials that include UPVC doors,
aluminium door handles doors & Timber Doors. They are sold in pairs for the outer and inner door, with screws and spindles included. They are available in both hand- and non-handled versions to suit different users.
They are typically used for new constructions and are fitted to replace existing doors made of upvc. They are typically operated by lifting up the levers, which throw out all of the multipoint locks, and turning the key to close / unlock. They provide additional security compared to standard lever door handles as the locking operation can only be accessed by entering the door with an open key, unless the door is deadlocked.
They're not as secure as a cylinder bolt, but are an affordable alternative for a home with more security. The only disadvantage is that they don't offer the same level of protection as a cylinder lock, and therefore don't block access to the home when the door is left open.
We have a wide selection of lever pad upvc handles made by top manufacturers in the industry. They are made from high-quality components. In general, they come with a manufacturer's warranty.
They are typically designed to work with the 92mm lock, or a replacement version called a Paddock Lock. They will have a 92mm centre cylinder on the inside and 62mm on the exterior and be equipped with two spindle followers. Some are inserted into the back plate while others can be removed to enable different fixing centres.
Lever/Snib
Lever latches are the simplest type of door handles. The lever is pushed down to operate a simple latch inside the door that can be locked using a key. Certain lever privacy handles work using the same principle however, with the addition of an lock snib (like the doorknob).
A snib can be very useful tool, particularly in homes where security and privacy are essential. If your partner arrives at home late from work, you can use the snib button to ensure that they can't get in until they're ready in. This type handle is also used in doors that are inside such as bedrooms, where you may need to restrict access from the outside.
In certain situations there are instances where snib buttons could cause problems, especially in the case of doors and locks that are distorted. If the snib button is used in a mistake or by someone who isn't used to it, the door can slam shut and shut you out. Usually, you can still gain entry by knocking on the door frame or letterbox, however this isn't the best option.
If your uPVC has a snib we recommend replacing it with a smart lock from the E-LOK 7 Series. These smart locks can be retrofitted to

The E-LOK app is able to unlock doors with RFID cards or mechanical keys. Passcodes are also offered for convenience and security. The system has been tested to 200 000 cycles to ensure long-term durability. The handles are constructed of solid metal and are in compliance with BS EN 1670 Grade 5 for resistance to corrosion.
Lever/Moveable Pad
This is a well-known handle design for front doors that has the advantage of keeping the door from opening from the outside without a key if the lock isn't deadlocked. This is accomplished through a 'pad' shaped external handle which locks in the gap between the handles and lock case to stop the latch from being withdrawn or the door from being opened.
This kind of handle is made for uPVC doors with multipoint locks which operate via split spindle operations. This kind of operation requires that the internal lever handle and external pad handle both be fitted to the same lock case. This can be a simple replacement of the existing uPVC handle, but it may also require a change in the lock case or a brand new set to handle furniture.
