Buying a Pram Newborn
Parents and caregivers can rely on pushchairs and prams to be versatile and multi-functional. They are the co-pilots of your child's new journey.
A pram newborn is a stroller for newborns and babies. It comes with a solid, deep carrycot that is soft walls that are safe and secure.
A pram is equipped with a bassinet, however it can be converted into a stroller when the baby is ready.
Safety
Newborns must be protected to the greatest extent possible. Purchasing a stroller or pram with safety features will ensure that your baby is safe and safe during their travels. The essential requirements for any pram or stroller are a functioning brake, a 5-point safety harness (2 shoulder straps, 2 waist straps and an strap for the crotch) and the wrist tether strap that is for the person who is pushing the pram. Make sure the pram you select is in compliance with these requirements.
Look for a pram that allows your newborn to ride in the recommended lying flat position. This position is supportive for the baby and prevents a potentially dangerous curve in the spine which could cause spinal issues. It reduces the risk of SUID (Sudden Unexpected Infant Death Syndrome) or asphyxiation, by keeping the airways open. Most prams are able to be used as early as birth. They come with seats that recline into a lay-flat position for younger infants and converts to a
double pushchair for older children.
The suspension of the pram will determine how smoothly it rides. A pram with a lot of spring suspension will be more expensive however, it's worth the extra cost if you plan to use your pram every day for a few years or longer.
Always read the instructions and read the warning labels on your
childs pram or stroller. When not in use, place your stroller in a safe area away from potential dangers like traffic, bicycles or other people. You should also remove any bags or other items from the handles, since they can cause your baby to get trapped or even suffocate.
A pram or stroller should never be left unattended with a child in it even if they are asleep. They could wriggle into the pram and become trapped, or it could roll away and cause injury. Hanging bags or other objects from the handles is not recommended since they could fall and strike your child in the head.
Comfort
Possibility of lying flat seating is an absolute must for newborns, because it helps improve lung and back development. Carrycots or cocoons are found on many prams. They create a cozy environment that is a comfortable place for your baby and can be removed easily from the frame. Other models, such as the egg2's bucket-style seat do not recline to lie flat, but they still offer a comfortable ride to your baby.
Some prams come with an extra bassinet, newborn inset or stroller seat, so you can easily switch between sitting and sleeping modes according to your baby's needs. It is commonly called a 'travel system' and is the first option you should test with your baby.
Choose a stroller with two shoulder straps, ideally padded, and a five-point safety harness. It should fit your baby's body comfortably. Check that there are no gaps or places where fingers could be trapped. Also, ensure that the buckles are simple for older children to operate. It's also worth considering whether you'd prefer a
parent facing pram or not. It's perfect to watch your child and helping them feel secure by the familiar sight of their parents.
Our parents who tested the product loved the feature of some prams like the Graco Near2Me, which allows you to raise your baby by pressing the button. This is an excellent way to stay in touch with your baby, especially when they are asleep. If you're looking for a travel system, make sure to check the frame is compatible with your chosen car capsule, as this will save you having to wake them up every time you're changing between car, pram and back.
Convenience
It is important to take into account your baby's needs for transportation when purchasing a baby pram. Some prams have a bassinet or carrycot, which allow your baby to be laid flat (essential for their spinal development and breathing) while others come with seats that recline to a lying-flat position. It is important to check what other accessories are included in the pram, such as the footmuff and the changing bag. These are essential to keep your baby warm when it is cold.
Some strollers and prams can be converted to travel systems. You can connect a car pod to the frame using adaptors, so you can transfer your child from the car to the pushchair without waking them up. These are great for those who live a hectic lifestyle or you don't have enough space in your car's boot to accommodate the pram. However, it is important to be aware that you'll need to wait until your baby is old enough to sit on their own before you transform them from a car capsule to a pushchair.
Another feature to keep an eye on is the possibility of raising and lowering the infant's seat from a low to a high setting, which allows you to maintain eye contact with them and keeps them close to you, something that our tester for parents found very useful for her 10-month old boy! One example is the Graco Near2Me which allows your child to 'glide closer to you at the touch of an button.
You should be able to put bags for shopping and changing in the basket underneath. You should also be able store shopping and changing bags inside the basket beneath (although be aware that loading the
double pram with excessive weight can cause it to tip over). If you are unsure of which one to pick, check out some different models at your local store.
