The best robot automatic hoover can mop and vacuum without needing your attention. It leaves your floors spotless. Its low cost and top-of-the-line functions (such as a dirt detectors) are both positives.

Make sure to check your robot vacuum cleaner's brushes frequently for tangled debris and hair. Wash them when necessary. Some models also self-empty their dust bin on board into a larger one at the base, which reduces the amount of fine dust released into the air.

1. Roomba Q5 Pro

The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive sibling, the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic vacuums we have test. They have top-of-the-line motors that can produce up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. Like other premium iRobot models (including the top choice) they employ intelligent mapping technology to create detailed floor plans and avoid common obstacles like cords and furniture legs. They also come with carpet boost, a feature which boosts the robot's power when it sees a lot of dirt on the carpet, allowing it cleaned up quickly.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored very well in our tests on bare floors, and they are particularly adept in cleaning dog hair. However, they do have several flaws that prevent them from being our top pick. One of the weaknesses of the Q5 is that its navigation system does not have AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's thus susceptible to getting stuck on shoes and socks and could not navigate rooms with lots of people well in our tests. It doesn't also have a camera to see around corners.

It's still a good value for those whose home or office has a lot of unfinished flooring and you're looking to save some money. It's also quiet and works when you're at work or at school. It lacks the edge-to-edge bare floor vacuuming offered in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 has self-emptying docks, however. If you're required to mop, the mopping pad can be replaced with one that is wet in just a few just a few seconds.

2. iRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming into an elegant, compact package. Its nimble navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it quick to clean and effective at taking on larger particles, such as pet hair. It also features a self-emptying dustbin as well as powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best automatic vacuum robotic hoover for carpets, however it's not as good as other hoovers when it comes to deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mop utilizes sensors to keep away from obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the structure of your home over time to ensure more efficient cleaning. You can change the schedule of cleaning and even customize zones with the well-designed app. It has a battery life that is similar to other models.

When the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted space, you can tell it to remove and extend its mop. This can help avoid cross-contamination. The flex arm can be used to reach under low-lying furnishings and along baseboards. It doesn't offer the same level of washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Professional+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

In tests, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop to complete the entire house with only 66 percent of its battery left. It also did an excellent job cleaning a variety of floors and rooms with various flooring types, such as some area carpets. Its obstacle detection was top-of-the-line and it was nimbly avoiding fake dog socks, turds, shoes and cables.

It's more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but has superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empties into the base. It also supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can clean the floor even after it has vacuumed. This is a feature we haven't seen on other robotic vacuum/mop combinations.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

With a sleek circular design that looks more like a normal Roomba than the competition's boxy units, this mop and robot vacuum is one of the most appealing looking in our evaluations. The latest model from iRobot is also among its most advanced. It comes with advanced features such as Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that can wash mop pads autonomously).

It's also the sole robot vacuum/mop that scored a perfect 10 out of 10 in our testing. This is due to the combination of high-tech sensors, including a structured light system, camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can completely self-refill and empty its base station and boasts an its own self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is easy to operate. It has an intuitive mobile application interface, and it is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that the X40 is still a loud unit. This can be a problem in mornings before work, or at night when you're trying to sleep.

It's also somewhat expensive, but it's not as pricey as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are similarly capable and better-looking. If you're willing to put up with a bit more noise and a little more cost, this is a very capable two-in-one that should please almost everyone.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with many advanced features to help you get rid of your chores. Like Ecovacs range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that takes the care of vacuuming and mopping, with a multi-function dock that automatically emptys the vacuum's dust bin, fills its water tank, washes and dries its mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of the combination of LIDAR and structured light to draw out floor plans and spot obstacles, navigating more intelligently than its more expensive competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards, though this wasn't completely foolproof in our tests, and could be confused with obstructions or power cords.

The vacuum has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to finish the job. It also comes with "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the intensity at which the vacuum works and alters the frequency of cleaning for different areas of your home in accordance with the degree of dirt they tend to be.

For bigger homes it's worth looking for one with zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean a particular area of your house via the app or voice controls. If you have lots of furniture, a stair mode is also useful. For families that are busy, a recharge feature and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to pick up where it left off could be very useful.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is more advanced than its price suggests. It does a stellar job cleaning, removing 55% of the debris we found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with a single pad that uses an oscillating motion that does a better job cleaning than the other mop cleaners for robots we've tested. It's also extremely self-sufficient, with a full-featured app and a self-emptying base that is washable.

The well-designed iRobot app guides you through an initial mapping run that gathers information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you have marked on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules, or to organize the spot-cleaning. It can also be used to it to prioritize the most soiled areas for better performance. The app comes with a variety of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.

It is also able to reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It also has a powerful suction of 8,000 Pascal suction and combs with intelligent technology for hair of pets. It also has the ability to create a spot-clean that thoroughly cleans a particular area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and less expensive alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive design, akin to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed like cute little eyes. It is excellent at vacuuming, but it is more likely to be caught on low thresholds. It is also noisier than other top robot vacuums we've examined. It also has an app that's less intuitive and has a tiny base station that does not double as a bin to empty.
