The upgrade system in World of Warcraft allows players to upgrade the quality of their gear by spending currencies at an item upgrader NPC. When an item is upgraded the type of item it is going to change. Upgrades to a normal item produce an Exceptional version, while upgrades to an Exceptional model create an Elite. The item will keep all of its prior upgrade statistics, but will also gain an additional benefit from its new base type. This bonus is randomly chosen. It could be a weapon that has a greater damage range, an increased speed of reloading, or increased max defense roll.
The amount of extras gained with an upgrade depends on the amount of upgrades done. Each upgrade will increase the number of extras by up to 3 points. Additionally, every upgrade will also boost the stat that is used to determine the main one by 1.
In addition to the stat increase Certain upgrades can provide a random boost. These boosts can be quite useful and should be taken into consideration when deciding which items to upgrade. Certain items come with inherent boo that is less beneficial when upgraded, for example the Goldwrap that gives you more slots for potion. These are usually upgraded to add value to a perfect or near-perfect item.
Costs
Upgrades are accompanied by a few associated costs. The first is the cost of performing the upgrade. This cost depends on the new level of the item and the amount of perks it will gain and is often expensive. It can also be expensive to upgrade an item to a higher level (such as Explorer > Champion or Veteran > Heroic).
The second is the cost of the materials needed to upgrade. The items used for upgrades are usually either Power Dices (dropped by monsters 21+) or Minerals and Erons (obtainable through completing specific Mists of Pandaria or Warlords of Draenor quests). The amount of these items needed can be found in the inventory of an upgrade vendor.
It takes time to upgrade an item. It could take as long as 8 hours depending on the size of an upgrade. The upgraded item's base stats are calculated by using the new ilvl of the item bonuses, perks, and other properties. This calculation determines the new Armor Class bonuses, damage dice, and other important stats. In some instances upgrades can provide additional benefits. These perks are offered in a list.
Rarely, the new advantages gained will cost more than one perk slot to acquire In these instances the upgrade will replace the most expensive perks. The upgrader could also make other changes to the
Best item Upgrader, such as changing the damage type of its weapon or eliminating an operational or unwieldy feature. The cost for these changes is determined by the item's new ilvl, and may require a special material, such as an adamantine alloy.
Success Rate
Item upgrades are based on the chance of success, and as with any random system, there is the possibility that the upgrade won't succeed. There are a few ways to increase the chances of success. This includes using an
item upgrading known as an Upgrade Pity, or the addition of additional materials to the upgrade.
An Upgrade Pity is a product that you can purchase from the smithing NPC in Lost Ark. It increases the chances of an upgrade succeeding by a certain percentage. This is similar to the luck bonus that some items have however it is more reliable. It can be added to any weapon or armor and can be used up to three times.
It is also possible to add a range of additional materials to the upgrade, thereby increasing its chances of success. These are shown in a separate window, above the + button. There are some limitations. The maximum amount of material you can add is displayed directly above the + button.
A Blacksmith Blessing or an upgraded version thereof can be used to increase the likelihood of a successful upgrade. This item is beneficial if you have an item of equipment that has reached the highest level for its tier or is close to it. It will allow you to upgrade that piece of equipment to the next level without risking breaking.
If an upgrade fails it will be restored to its initial state. This is typically an error, but it could also be a downgrade. It is a good idea to save an upgrade for when you are close to the maximum capacity of an item, and then use it as an emergency.
There are several items in the Kafra shop that can be used to improve the chances of an upgrade succeeding. For instance upgrading an item of equipment using HD Oridecon or HD Elunium multiple times will provide you with a higher chance of success. In the same way, increasing the likelihood to receive a Double Mint from Shoe-Minting a maximum of five times will increase the chance of success.
Failure Rate

The upgrade window will display a percent indication of your chance of success. This percentage is based upon the upgrade level and type of the product you have selected.
You can also select the option of a security feature for your
item level upgrade that will safeguard your item in the event of failure. This protection is not free however, the cost will be lower than a new item. The safeguard can only be used only once per upgrade and will last until it is used again.
The interface for the
item upgrader can be a little difficult, but it's not difficult to navigate. The main menu is visible on the left and the upgrade window is on the right. The arrows to the left side of the UI represent the various phases of the upgrade process. Click the question mark icon to seek help if you are unsure what you're doing. The process of upgrading could take as long as five minutes.
