Upgrades increase the value of certain numeric stats on armor, weapons and rings. They also increase bonuses, such as crit chance and PvE damage.

If the weapon's upgrade template is %, it will gain an additional 3% of the previous attack damage every time it is upgraded.

Item upgrading costs crests and the current level of the item. The cost rises with item's level.

Components

upgrade items components are items that can be inserted into weapons, armor, and trinkets in order to provide a stat bonus or extra effect when they're used. They can be obtained by crafting, purchasing from vendors trading or looting. Some upgrades can also be accompanied by specific cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components can be inserted into equipment that has a slot to accommodate them; the item must have been at a minimum upgraded to blue level in order for the component to be used. Upgrade components, unlike other modifications, can only be applied once. They cannot be replaced or applied several times. Infusions and enrichments are a particular kind of upgrade component that is used to upgrade non-amulet ascended or legendary equipment and some of the items that are not ascending back. Infusions and Enrichments can be obtained by salvaging equipment from the ascended state or completing a quest in the Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall campaigns.

An upgrade could include a suffix or prefix, modifying the name of the Best item upgrade to which it is applied (for instancefor example 'Canthan Armor Insignia' becomes Canthan Armor of Minor Vigor). Some upgrades increase an item's Mark Level or Rarity, allowing players make stronger versions of the equipment with fewer Upgrade Crystals than are required to achieve the same level of upgrade using normal methods.

A 'boost upgrade' can modify the attack or defense characteristics of a weapon or armor. These upgrades can be made from the Portative Forging Station once the player has completed the cutscene, and defeats the Crazed Mechanic. They can also be dropped by enemies while upgrading other gear or by buying them from the cash shop for 500 upgrade crystals.

Each upgrade increases the chance that a higher tier version of an item will be revealed during the next reset. This gives players a reason to upgrade their gear even when they're not sure what will be improved after a reset.

Whether a boost upgrade is successful or not, the process can be costly, and there is a substantial possibility that the item will become obsolete or even break if it fails. A failed upgrade will destroy the Upgrade Crystals and Assist Powder as well as the upgraded item. This is alleviated by the availability cash shop items that increase or even eliminate the chance of failure, and some upgrades that provide a bonus when reinserted into an item.

Glyphs

Glyphs are upgrade elements that can be placed in special sockets on the Paragon Board. Glyphs increase the power of nodes within a radius, and include any existing affixes. Glyphs can be upgraded in a variety of ways. We recommend upgrading them as quickly as possible to level 15.

It is commonplace to see in the endgame that placing Glyphs is the most effective way to upgrade your equipment. They are the only upgrade component that can be upgraded straight to level 15 and provide a large boost to your power and radius on the Paragon Board, enabling you to climb higher nodes faster.

The majority of upgrades in the game can be replaced however, Glyphs are only the one upgrade component that can be removed and put back in place without restrictions. The only exception is legendary equipment, which requires the use of a Black Lion Salvage Kit to salvage and then re-install.

The value of each Glyph is displayed when you choose it in your inventory. You can replace it with a Glyph that is of the same or higher rank to increase the value of the Glyph.

You can find Glyphs in the Black Lion Trading Post, as part of a Gem Store purchase or bundle with certain gathering tools that are unlimited-use as well as through Faction Crypt raids. Every Faction Crypt can drop one of these Glyphs. There are also some rare glyphs which you can find in any of the Faction Crypts.

Once you have obtained the desired Glyphs then you need to place them on your gear. Each Glyph unlocks a unique bonus that boosts the stats of a specific set of nodes within a radius around the Glyph. Depending on the Glyph, this will either be +40 to one of your primary stats, or +25 to two of your secondary stats.

Glyphs will increase the number of nodes connected to them, which is why it is recommended to place Glyphs in strategic locations on the Graph. This will maximize the impact. Druids, for example should position their Glyphs close to their primary damage nodes. They might also want to consider placing them near their most critical damage nodes.

Leveling

The item upgrading system lets players increase the effectiveness of certain items by placing upgraded components in them. This is known as "upping". Each upgradeable item has an amount that determines its upgraded stats. Upgraded items are able to be leveled up to a maximum level of 385 ilvl. Each level of item requires different components, and upgrade costs increase with each level.

Some upgrades require an ingredient to be activated. This ingredient is obtained by finishing Upgrade Recipes. These recipes are available in the upgrade tab of a crafting table or purchased from some NPCs. Each Upgrade Recipe that is completed earns several Technology Points. These points can be used to upgrade the item, and when enough points are earned, the upgrade will be claimed and the additional bonuses will be added to the item.

When a player upgrades a piece of equipment it will be replaced by the new item. The same armor will be upgraded to a weapon or a shield when upgraded. The new item will have its own set bonus. This can be a downside in that the item could become more expensive even if you do not require it.

The upgrades to items can be rerolled if the player has enough reroll tokens to be able to do this. This will cause the item to be exchanged for a brand new one, which will come with an initial level and a completely different set of bonuses. This is useful for some items, but it shouldn't be repeated often, as it could waste a lot of resources.

Some upgrades can increase their value, allowing players to customize their equipment. Dolphin's Gift is a good example, as it gives an increase in power if the player continuously enters or leaves the water. It is possible to upgrade it several times, each time increasing the max roll by a factor of 10. This Best item upgrader is extremely valuable in PvP as an item that is properly rolled it can be worth between 20 and 50x its value if it is not upgraded.

Requirements

Item upgrading allows players to increase the quality of their equippable equipment - weapons, armor, and trinkets over ilvl 385 by offering the appropriate items and currency to an NPC that upgrades items. Upgrades to armor set pieces also increase the base defense of the piece, whereas upgrading weapons will increase the damage base as well as the required strength and dexterity to match the requirements of the upgraded equipment.

Each item can be upgraded a maximum of five times, except for hero gear, which can have eight upgrades. Each time you upgrade a piece of equipment, it is at risk of failing. The probability of failure increases as you move beyond the maximum number. Failures can result in the item returning to its original condition which means that the player has to purchase more items than if they stopped upgrading after the maximum number.

If an item does not upgrade, the amount of accumulated experience in its growth bar is reset to zero. The item will also lose any bonuses it has gained like the chance to crit, attack damage, or additional effects (such as a higher healing rate over time, or reloading speed). The player can continue to use their weapon or armor even after the failure.

Whenever an item is upgraded, the upgrades are applied from lowest to highest. This means that when a weapon is upgraded, if it receives a crit chance boost it will be applied prior to any damage from attacks increases. Slots is a new attribute that was added to item definitions. The value is recalculated every time an upgrade occurs.

The amount of resources needed to upgrade an item is based on the rarity rating and the number of upgrade slots. The cost of upgrading non-premium items is equal to the base value of the upgrade. For instance, a standard equipment item could have five upgrades, each costing 25600 Technology Points 4x Quality Improvement Chance. Hero grade items have a lower cost per upgrade.

Premium items might have different upgrade item requirements from regular gear. For example they might require fewer sowels, but more minerals and orons. The player will need to carry every piece of equipment they wish to upgrade to the NPC [Armor] Boboko located in Central Flarine. Each upgrade to equipment requires different amounts of the ingredients needed to upgrade, in addition to the costs that are listed above.
